Creative Ad Copywriter

Contrarian Thinking

Austin, TX • On-site

Full-time

Posted 20 days ago

Job description

If you're a copywriter who can write ad copy that makes people stop scrolling, click, and buy, you belong here.

We're building a creative ad team to produce high-converting viral copy at scale. You'll write headlines, body copy, and CTAs for paid campaigns across social platforms that reach millions. Your words will drive direct revenue and build our brand. We're not looking for someone to "find their voice"we're looking for someone who already has one and knows how to weaponize it.

This role is NOT for people still learning ad copy fundamentals. It's for experienced ad writers who want to ship fast, iterate based on performance data, and consistently produce copy that converts.

What You'll Actually Do

Write viral ad copy at volume. You'll produce 510+ ad variations per week. Headlines. Body copy. CTAs. Hooks that stop scrolls. Angles that resonate with our audience. Every piece built for conversion, not vanity metrics.

Test and iterate relentlessly. You'll see performance data in real time. Which headline drove the most clicks? Which CTA had the highest conversion rate? You'll learn the patterns and apply them immediately. Your job is to get better every week.

Own the ad creative strategy alongside the media team. You'll brainstorm angles with our marketing team. You'll understand the campaign goalis this about leads, sales, community growth?and write copy that achieves it. You'll pitch angle variations and watch which ones win.

Write for platforms that matter. Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn. Each platform has different DNA. You'll adapt your voice, length, and approach to fit where the ad lives and who sees it.

Create frameworks and hooks that work. Over time, you'll discover patterns. The angle that converts best. The structure that works. The hook that stops scrolls 60% of the time. You'll systematize it and teach others.

Collaborate with designers and media buyers. Your copy needs to live with visuals and land in front of the right people at the right time. You'll work directly with our design and media teams to ensure copy and creative align.

A typical week might look like:

  • Monday: Brainstorm campaign angles with the marketing team. Pitch 3 angle variations.
  • TuesdayThursday: Write 12 ad variations across 3 different campaign angles. Test on Facebook and Instagram.
  • Friday: Review performance data. Identify top 3 performers. Refine those angles for next week. Write post-mortems on what didn't work.
  • Ongoing: Spot trends. Pitch new angles based on what you're seeing in real time.
What We Need at the Core

Proven ad copy experience. 2+ years writing ads (Facebook, Google, TikTok, etc.). You have case studies showing ad copy you wrote and the results it drove. Click-through rates. Cost per acquisition. Return on ad spend. Numbers required.

Speed without sacrificing quality. You can write 3 strong variations in an hour. You don't overthink. You ship. You trust your instincts.

Understanding of what converts. You know the difference between engagement bait and high-intent copy. You understand pain points, desire, and urgency. You know how to position a product and sell it in 30 words.

Direct response mindset. You think in terms of metrics. Open rates. Click rates. Conversion rates. You want to see what worked and why. You obsess over data.

Platform fluency. You understand the voice, length, and style that works on each platform. TikTok copy feels different from LinkedIn copy. You adapt instantly.

Collaborative but independent. You take direction well and work closely with creative and media teams. You also know when to push back and when to trust your gut. You don't need constant feedback to ship.

Hunger to win. You want your copy to be the top performer. You celebrate when an ad crushes it. You're competitive and you care.

Comfort with iteration and failure. Some ads won't work. You ship them, learn, and move on. No ego. No drama. Just data.

What We Don't Need
  • Blog writers or content writers (this is ads only)
  • Designers or video editors (we have those)
  • Agency experience required (freelance, in-house, doesn't matterresults do)
  • Deep expertise in the business niche (we'll teach you the audience)
You'll Measure Success By
  • Click-through rate and conversion rate improvements over time
  • How many ad variations you write that become top performers
  • Cost per acquisition on campaigns you write copy for
  • Whether the marketing team is asking for more of your variations
  • How fast you can turn around quality copy without losing momentum
  • Whether your copy is becoming repeatable frameworks other writers study
A Typical Example of Your Work

You write a Facebook ad headline: "I bought 3 laundromats in 6 months with $0 of my own money. Here's how."

Body copy hooks on a specific, relatable angle. CTA is clear and direct. It runs for a week. Converts at 2.8% (strong for the niche). You analyze why it worked: specific number, relatability, proof of concept. You write 4 variations on that same angle the next week. Two beat it. One becomes your top performer for the quarter.

Compensation

Project-based / Freelance (per ad, per campaign, or retainerwe'll discuss)

Location

Austin, TX (hybridyou'll need to be in Austin for regular collaboration)
