We are searching for a leader for our web development team. The Director of Development leads the web development practice, while balancing development work of their own. This self-starter will strategize, develop, and manage both project-based and recuring development clients.

This role requires a highly organized, detail-oriented individual who can balance the hard skills and soft skills of managing a team in parallel to their own development projects. The right candidate will enjoy both managing the team and building best-in-class websites. Great interpersonal skills will allow this person to build lasting relationships with coworkers and clients.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage development staff and related contractors
  • Mentor development staff to grow team abilities
  • Own the vision and business plan for the development practice
  • Stay current on industry trends and best practices to evolve our development services, tools, and platforms
  • Implements methodology to ensure development tools, frameworks, and libraries remain fresh
  • Establish processes, standards, and documentation for the development practice and updates as needed
  • Maintain and evolve our agency base theme
  • Plan and execute development projects from start to finish in an efficient way
  • Develop custom WordPress websites based on provided design prototypes. This includes custom themes and plugins.
  • Conduct website audits as needed
  • Support business development efforts by means of website quote preparation and discussion with prospects

Requirements:

  • Robust experience managing a development team
  • Expert level WordPress development
  • Experience strategizing and executing website plans
  • Ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical clients and team members
  • Preference for open-source tech stack in LAMP environment
  • Expert in current version HTML, CSS, and PHP
  • Comfortable knowledge in JavaScript/jQuery
  • Custom WordPress theme development
  • General understanding of Git
  • General understanding of Gulp or other asset compilation technology
  • General understanding of dependency management using Composer and NPM/Yarn
  • Comfortable in hosting environment areas such as cPanel and WHM
  • Exceptional attention to detail

Physical Requirements:

  • Safely and effectively lift, carry, and move objects of varying weights.
  • Bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, climbing, balancing, standing, and walking, for extended periods and maintain the necessary physical dexterity and coordination.
  • Work in various environmental conditions, which may include exposure to varying temperatures, weather, and noise levels.
