Job description

AFS OH Rittman School Coordinator VISTA
OHuddle is an innovative faith-based organization founded by local educators to engage students in a school-based model of 1:1 mentorship. OHuddle's model has been celebrated by the Wayne County Community Foundation and Chamber as a "Worthy Works" recipient. OHuddle stands for Odyssey Huddle and our mission is to awaken youth to their unique value through hope filled relationships and one to one mentorship. Located in Wayne County Ohio, OHuddle VISTAs will enjoy a college town atmosphere with a historic downtown and a variety of boutique stores and restaurants. 60 minutes from Cleveland and 90 minutes from Columbus, Wooster boasts hiking and running trails and was named "Ohio's Best Hometown" for the past two years running due to access to arts, culture, and affordable housing. OHuddle is seeking a VISTA member to develop resources for expanded for OHuddle mentorship programming in Orrville Elementary School. The VISTA's service will benefit students in poverty and trauma by providing them with a hope filled relationship through 1:1 mentorship. The ideal candidate is skilled at creative problem solving, data management, and research application to launch two new district mentorship sites. The VISTA should be self-motivated with excellent time management and communication skills, will be a part of a close-knit team of professionals and have the opportunity to engage in creative program development and to work with corporate and governmental industry leaders. The OHuddle VISTA will receive extensive training related to the 40 Developmental Assets (research-based precepts to improve student outcome), Poverty, and Trauma. We look forward to your participation in our regular self-care programs including motivational talks, yoga, massage, or medication sessions, and cooking /art therapy used to reduce the secondary-stress of our volunteer mentors. Member Duties : The VISTA will develop environmental education and sustainability resources for expanded mentorship programming in Rittman Elementary School based upon OHuddle's 1:1 Developmental Asset based model with goals of increasing community involvement in the school, improving education around prevention programming, and improving student academic and behavioral outcomes. The VISTA will assess and develop tools for volunteer/ mentor recruitment system to ensure a best match with students referred by each school partner to alleviate barriers of trauma and poverty.
