Job description

Landscape Designer / Sales

Location: West Michigan

Job Type: Full-Time

About the Opportunity

Lang Recruiting is partnering with a well-established West Michigan landscape design and construction company to find an experienced Landscape Designer / Sales professional.

This is a unique opportunity for someone who enjoys combining landscape design, sales, estimating, project coordination, and customer relationships. The successful candidate will work directly with homeowners to understand their vision, develop creative outdoor living solutions, prepare proposals and estimates, and guide clients through the entire design/build process.

This is a highly client-facing role. You will serve as a trusted advisor throughout the project, maintaining communication with the customer and helping ensure their vision becomes a successful finished project.

What You'll Do

  • Meet with prospective and existing clients to understand their goals, lifestyle, preferences, and budget
  • Conduct on-site consultations and evaluate properties to determine project scope and opportunities
  • Develop creative, functional, and visually appealing landscape and outdoor living designs
  • Prepare estimates, proposals, presentations, and project scopes
  • Lead the sales process from initial consultation through signed contract
  • Educate clients on design options, materials, plantings, project costs, and timelines
  • Work closely with construction and installation teams to ensure projects are executed according to the approved design and scope
  • Maintain consistent communication with clients throughout the design and build process
  • Keep clients informed of project progress, changes, timelines, and expectations
  • Assist with material and plant selections and develop project specifications
  • Coordinate project details between clients, designers, estimators, and field teams
  • Monitor projects to help ensure the finished product meets client expectations
  • Build strong, long-term customer relationships that generate repeat business and referrals
  • Provide an exceptional customer experience from the first consultation through project completion
  • Stay current on landscape design trends, products, materials, and installation practices

What We're Looking For

  • 3+ years of experience in landscape design, landscape construction/build, landscape sales, or a combination of these areas
  • Strong understanding of landscape design and the landscape construction process
  • Demonstrated sales and customer relationship management experience
  • Strong estimating and project-scoping skills
  • Ability to translate a client's ideas and needs into a thoughtful, buildable design
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively with both clients and field/construction teams
  • Proficiency with landscape design software is a plus
  • Associate degree preferred, particularly in Landscape Design, Horticulture, or another Green Industry-related field
  • Valid driver's license and ability to be insured under the company's insurance policy

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is someone who can comfortably wear several hats. You may spend part of your day meeting with a homeowner, developing a landscape design, preparing an estimate, presenting a proposal, and then coordinating with the construction team to make sure the project comes together as planned.

You should be equally comfortable with the creative side of landscape design and the relationship-driven side of sales.

If you are passionate about creating beautiful outdoor spaces, enjoy working directly with customers, and want to take ownership of projects from concept through completion, this could be a great opportunity for you.

Why This Role?

  • Opportunity to work on custom landscape and outdoor living projects
  • Direct ownership of the client relationship and sales process
  • Combination of design, sales, estimating, and project coordination
  • Opportunity to see your designs move from concept to completion
  • Join an established West Michigan organization with a strong reputation in the landscape industry
