What are some common challenges faced by creative engineers when balancing technical feasibility with innovative design ideas?

Creative Engineers often encounter the challenge of transforming imaginative concepts into technically viable solutions. Balancing innovation with practicality requires close collaboration with both design and engineering teams, ensuring that creative ideas can be implemented within project constraints such as budget, timeline, and available technology. Navigating these challenges involves clear communication, iterative prototyping, and a willingness to adapt designs based on technical feedback. Successful Creative Engineers thrive in multidisciplinary environments and are adept at problem-solving while maintaining a focus on both functionality and aesthetics.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a creative engineer?

To thrive as a Creative Engineer, you need a strong foundation in engineering principles, design thinking, and problem-solving, often supported by a degree in engineering or a related technical field. Familiarity with CAD software, rapid prototyping tools, and programming languages like Python or C++ is typically required. Strong collaboration, adaptability, and communication skills help bridge the gap between technical and creative teams. These skills are crucial for developing innovative solutions that are both technically sound and visually engaging.

Job description

About us

HiBob helps modern, mid-size businesses transform the way they manage people, giving HR and managers all they need to connect, engage, develop, and retain top talent. Since 2015, we’ve achieved consecutive triple-digit year-over-year growth, all backed by our amazing team of Bobbers from across the globe, making us the choice HRIS of over 5,000 midsize and multinational companies. Our HR platform is intuitive, data-driven, and built for the way people work today: globally, remotely, and collaboratively. Fast-growing companies across the globe such as Monzo, Happy Socks, Fiverr, and VaynerMedia rely upon Bob to help them create the best work experiences for their people.

Come and be you with us

Being a Bobber is all about being you. We want you to bring all parts of yourself to work, giving you the freedom and confidence to be the best you and do your best work. If that’s bubbly, shy, precise, funny, bold, kind, honest, brilliant, or anything in between, we’re waiting with open arms. Come join us.

The Role

As we scale from $300M+ ARR toward $1B, HiBob is seeking a Creative Director who is equal parts visionary architect and hands‑on creative leader. You won’t just manage design, you will define the heartbeat of the HiBob brand, transforming it into a category‑defining visual and narrative system that challenges the status quo of the HR tech space.

Day‑to‑day, you are the bridge between high‑level brand strategy and rigorous execution. You lead creative reviews with a discerning eye, translating complex business objectives into actionable art direction that is as conversion‑focused as it is beautiful. Partnering deeply with Brand, Regional Marketing, Demand Generation, and Product Marketing, you ensure our visual storytelling is cohesive across every touchpoint, from high‑impact TV and OOH campaigns to digital performance assets.

You will spearhead a complete overhaul of our visual identity, creating a compelling, human‑centric design language that resonates deeply across the US market and beyond. We are looking for a storyteller who understands that design is a business lever; someone with a rock‑solid graphic design background who sees beyond the layout. You understand that great art direction is the foundation for a brand that disrupts, engages, and endures. You will lead the charge in building a world‑class creative culture, managing internal talent, contractors, and agencies to ensure every pixel and every word elevates our position as a leader defining the future of work.

  • Experience: 10+ years of creative leadership in B2B SaaS or a high‑growth tech environment.
  • Brand Marketing Partnership: Proven expertise in acting as a strategic partner to Brand Marketing leadership, with a demonstrated ability to align creative output with high‑level business growth objectives.
  • Graphic Design Background: A strong foundation in hands‑on graphic design, typography, and visual layout is required to lead, critique, and elevate our creative output.
  • Agency Management: Extensive experience partnering with external agencies, from onboarding and briefing to creative direction and performance oversight, to ensure global brand consistency and high‑quality execution.
  • Portfolio: A world‑class portfolio demonstrating mastery in brand identity, high‑impact campaigns, and narrative storytelling.
  • Technical Skills: Expert knowledge of modern design tools (Figma, Adobe Creative Suite) and practical experience integrating AI video/design tools (e.g., Runway, Midjourney) into production workflows.
  • Leadership: Proven track record of managing and scaling creative teams in a matrixed, global organization.
  • Education: BA in Design, Fine Arts, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
What you will do :
  • Brand Evolution: Elevate HiBob’s visual identity into a distinctive, category‑leading system globally.
  • Creative Engineering: Operationalize AI within design workflows to increase throughput while maintaining elite creative standards.
  • Governance: Establish and lead a scalable brand governance and creative review process to ensure quality across global campaigns.
  • Leadership: Manage and mentor a high‑performing creative team spread globally.
  • Market Impact & Brand Activation: Spearhead our entry into high‑impact brand marketing, successfully launching and scaling campaigns across TV/CTV, Out‑of‑Home (OOH), and experiential events. Drive a rigorous approach to scaling on‑brand paid creative, ensuring every asset is optimized for maximum market penetration and brand salience.
Creative Leadership & Strategy
  • Define and own the long‑term visual language, design system, and "brand code" for HiBob.
  • Lead the creative direction for brand campaigns, partnership activities, and flagship corporate activations and assets.
  • Direct agency partners for creative execution, ensuring all external work aligns with in‑house brand standards.
  • Act as the ultimate guardian of the HiBob brand system, ensuring visual and narrative integrity across every global touchpoint and digital interface.
  • Partner with external agencies and Regional Marketing Managers to orchestrate high‑quality execution that balances global standards with local market nuance.
Team & Operations Management:

You are the conductor of our creative ecosystem. You will lead, mentor, and inspire a multidisciplinary creative team, cultivating a high‑performance environment where "good" is only the starting line. Your team will be a mix of internal talent, external agency partners, and specialized contractors, all unified under your creative vision. You will foster a culture of excellence by managing the end‑to‑end creative lifecycle, from the initial spark of an idea to high‑fidelity execution. Your success lies in your ability to scale creative throughput without compromising on craft, empowering your team to consistently push boundaries and maintain brand excellence across all global channels.

Digital & Performance Alignment
  • Oversee the translation of brand direction into scalable, high‑performing creative across the full funnel.
  • Collaborate with the Performance Creative Engine to optimize ad iterations, variants, and digital landing pages while maintaining brand integrity.
  • Ensure the design system supports localized execution for regional marketing teams.
  • Link creative art direction to tangible business outcomes, utilizing rigorous measurement and data insights to optimize brand impact and performance.
AI & Innovation
  • Lead the adoption of AI‑enabled design workflows (e.g., generative visual brand language) to reduce production cycle times.
  • Act as a guardian against "generic" AI output, ensuring brand judgment and human creativity remain the core of the function.
