Job description

About Door G

Door G is a creative production studio where imagination meets innovation. We blend bold storytelling with virtual production, traditional filmmaking, and AI-enabled workflows to deliver premium work at real production speed.

The Role

Our Contract Creative Directors lead the creative on specific video engagements — a pitch, a campaign, a shoot, a run of deliverables. You own the idea and protect it from the first brief through final delivery.

This is hands-on work. You concept, you write the treatment, you present to the client, you direct on location and in the LED volume, and you give the editorial notes that get the cut where it needs to be.

We hold contract CDs to the same taste bar as our full time creative leadership. What's different is the scope: you own the project, not the department. The people who do this well walk into an established team, read the room fast, and make the work better without needing three weeks to warm up.

What You'll Do
  • Turn the client brief into a real idea — story arcs, treatments, scripts, and visual frameworks that separate the work from commodity content.

  • Shape the pitch narrative and the creative spine of the deck, translating production capability into a benefit the client can champion internally.

  • Present concepts and creative recommendations to clients and internal stakeholders, and hold the room through feedback.

  • Direct live action, virtual production, and animation work; performance, shot execution, visual storytelling.

  • Partner with the Producer on feasibility early, so creative ambition and the budget meet before the shoot rather than during it.

  • Give clear, decisive direction to editors, motion designers, animators, and VAD teams through post.

  • Review cuts, boards, style frames, animation, graphics, and sound with actionable notes tied back to the approved direction.

  • Use AI tools for ideation, storyboarding, visualization, and concepting where they elevate the work and where client requirements allow.

What You'll Bring
  • Experience: 8+ years of creative direction or senior creative work in a production company, agency, studio, or comparable moving-image environment.

  • Video Portfolio: Work that demonstrates concept, craft, and storytelling across live action, animation, branded content, or other moving-image formats.

  • Directing Ability: Real experience directing talent, crews, and visual execution on set and the instinct to partner with Producers rather than work around them.

  • Creative Judgment: A clear point of view, and the ability to explain why a choice serves the brief, the audience, the brand, and the business objective.

  • Client Communication: Confidence presenting work, absorbing feedback, and turning stakeholder input into decisions inside an established approval process.

  • Production Fluency: Practical command of production and post workflows, including budget, schedule, technical, and delivery realities.

  • Adaptability: Comfortable flexing across creative approaches, client environments, project structures, and levels of responsibility depending on the engagement.

  • AI Fluency: Working familiarity with modern creative AI tools for concepting, visualization, and storyboarding — and the judgment to know when they help and when they don't.

  • A Plus: Direct experience in an LED volume or other virtual production environment. Not required.

This is a hybrid position in our East Providence office. We are not able to offer relocation or visa support for this role. We are an EEO/Affirmative Action employer.
