Job description

Music Orchard Richmond (MOR) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing access to high-quality, inclusive music education for Kโ€“12 youth across the Richmond region. We offer both in-school and after-school programming, led by professional Teaching Artists and supported by community volunteers and mentors. Our programs are rooted in culturally responsive practices and designed to support the academic, emotional, and creative growth of young musicians.

Position Summary

Music Orchard Richmond is seeking a dedicated and culturally responsive Piano Teaching Artist to join our team for the 2026-2027school year. This position is focused exclusively on individual instruction. The ideal candidate is an engaging educator who is passionate about student-centered music education and making music accessible for all.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach weekly individual piano lessons
  • Use a culturally informed and age-appropriate curriculum
  • Support each studentโ€™s musical development, confidence, and creativity
  • Track and communicate student progress with MOR staff
  • Foster an inclusive, encouraging learning environment
  • Arrive prepared and on time to all teaching sessions
  • Participate in occasional performances and program events (paid)
Qualifications
  • Strong piano proficiency and experience in music instruction
  • Previous teaching experience with Kโ€“12 students preferred
  • Commitment to inclusive and culturally informed teaching
  • Excellent communication and classroom management skills
