What are CRDs?

CRDs, or Custom Resource Definitions, are a way to extend the Kubernetes API by defining your own custom resources. They allow users to create, manage, and store custom objects in Kubernetes clusters, enabling the platform to support new types of resources beyond the built-in ones like Pods and Services. By using CRDs, developers can tailor Kubernetes to their specific requirements without modifying its core code. CRDs are an essential part of building Kubernetes Operators and managing complex applications. They are managed using standard Kubernetes tools like kubectl.
