As a CRCST in a hospital, your daily responsibilities include cleaning, decontaminating, assembling, and sterilizing surgical instruments and medical equipment. You will inventory, inspect, and package instruments, ensure equipment is available and in good condition for surgical procedures, and strictly follow established infection control standards. CRCSTs often collaborate closely with operating room staff, nurses, and other members of the healthcare team to meet tight schedules and address urgent needs. Adhering to protocols and maintaining accurate records are also important parts of the job, ensuring patient safety and compliance with regulatory requirements.
To thrive as a CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician), you need strong knowledge of sterilization processes, infection control, and surgical instrument handling, usually demonstrated by obtaining CRCST certification from IAHCSMM. Must possess manual dexterity, computer skills, and be able to work under pressure. 3. Effective oral and written communication skills. 4. Must be able to read, spell and do simple math, write clearly and understand written and oral instructions. 5. Ability to function successfully as part of a team.
