Position Description

Job Summary:

Summers Taylor is seeking a highly skilled Certified Crane Operator to join our team that works in East Tennessee and Western North Carolina. The Crane Operator position is responsible for operating heavy crane equipment in a safe and appropriate manner at highway and civil heavy construction projects. This role requires a keen understanding of load capacities, site layout, and operating procedures to ensure that lifts are conducted safely and within industry standards. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of operating heavy machinery in a construction setting and will demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.


Minimum Qualifications:

  1. 3-5 years of crane operating experience required, bridge construction preferred
  2. Class A or B CDL license with clean driving record and current DOT physical card required
  3. CIC, NCCO or equivalent OSHA-approved crane certification required
  4. Must be able to climb ladders, stand and walk on uneven surfaces as well as sit for long periods of time. Must be able to lift 50 pounds


Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Operate crane to lift and move materials and other objects
  2. Plan all lifts, use capacity charts
  3. Perform rigging inspection and daily crane inspection
  4. Respond according to hand and/or verbal instructions
  5. Observe the travel of all loads and take appropriate action to avoid injury to personnel or damage to property
  6. Listen to warning alarms and respond accordingly, and dread boom angle and drum rotation indicators
  7. Ultimate responsible person during crane or hoisting operations to ensure the pick is safe
  8. Perform daily inspections and report findings using effective verbal and written communication skills
  9. Be thoroughly familiar with crane control functions
  10. Operate crawler and hydraulic cranes for bridge construction
  11. Keep equipment clean and well maintained on an ongoing basis
