Job Description:

The CPSGT is accountable for performing, coordinating, and documenting physiologic studies of sleep and sleep-related disorders. The CPSGT, working with minimal supervision, provides care and education to patients via technology, therapeutic interventions, and coordination of care with other health care professionals. The CPSGT credential is required for this role.

Essential Functions

  • Monitors and documents on patients undergoing physiologic sleep studies.
  • Monitors and tracks equipment and supplies.
  • Completes record keeping and charting.
  • Ability to address and solve both technical and interpersonal problems.
  • Demonstrated communication skills
  • Ability to use computerized and mechanical equipment efficiently.
  • Perform overnight Polysomnographic studies, using various modes of Positive Airway Pressure (PAP) therapy interventions.
  • Perform Home Sleep Apnea Tests (HSAT).
  • Obtain 10 Continuing Education Credits (CEC) related to sleep medicine annually.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Degree or GED
  • Current Certified Polysomnographic Technician (CPSGT) credential
  • Specific certifications or skills as required by facility or patient population (i.e. PALS, ACLS, NRP)
  • BLS Certification or RQI for Healthcare Providers.
  • Available to work varying shifts, including night shift.
  • Certified Polysomnographic Technicians must obtain the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) credential within 18 months of initial hire/transfer.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Clinical or patient care experience
  • Anatomy and medical terminology courses
  • If working in Idaho, PSGT Permit issued by the Idaho State Board of Medicine

Physical Requirements

  • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, documents, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and be able to assess customer needs.
  • Frequent interactions with providers, colleagues, customers, patients/clients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, needs, and issues quickly and accurately.
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use for typing, accessing needed information, etc.
  • May have the same physical requirements as those of clinical or patient care jobs, when the leader takes clinical shifts.
  • For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.
