Job description

JOB TITLE: Safety Security Officer

DEPARTMENT: Housing and Services

FLSA: Non-Exempt

LOCATION: Brooklyn, NY

SALARY: $19.65 P/H


SUMMARY:

Westhab is seeking dedicated and motivated individuals to join our Security Department. The Safety Security Officer is responsible for performing a variety of specialized assignments in a homeless shelter and apartment buildings. Covid-19 Vaccination required.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure safety and security of clients, staff, and property in and around the facility.
  • Make hourly rounds throughout the entire facility; monitor cameras as assigned for surveillance; Check all doors hourly, including fire exits.
  • Interact with and monitor clients/client families; maintain good rapport with clients and encourage clients to comply with facility policy and procedures.
  • Intervene to de-escalate potential crises, domestic violence, and abuse, and document all such situations and interventions.
  • Complete logs, incident reports, and all other required documentation.
  • Make calls to CPS as directed, and complete follow-up reports.
  • Monitor traffic at the front desk; handle switchboard and reception area.
  • Provide duties related to fire incidents, evacuation of the building when necessary, and utilizing Fire procedures.
  • Ensure the safety and security of all assigned equipment.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

A high school diploma or GED and prior security experience are required. Must have NYS Security Guard License, and current 8 Hour Annual Certificate. Fire Guard License for Shelters preferred. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are necessary. Certified in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI) preferred. Must be able to work flexible shifts, weekends, and overtime if necessary.
