SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
Under general supervision, instructs Washoe County School District employees on how to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). CPR is the noninvasive assessment and intervention used to treat victims of cardiovascular and/or respiratory emergencies and stroke. CPR instructor may be teaching employees who may never have taken a CPR class before to those who are renewing the CPR certification. CPR courses are taught in accordance with current American Heart Association guidelines.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Instruction & Curriculum Execution
  • AHA Compliance: Follows American Heart Association curriculum strictly when teaching CPR courses.
  • Knowledge Evaluation: Appraises student psychomotor skills and cognitive knowledge using standard methods.
  • Student Support: Provides ongoing positive and corrective feedback to core participants.
  • Remediation: Offers reasonable extra instruction to students who require additional help.

Equipment & Technology Management
  • Logistics Handling: Follows proper procedures for the set-up and dismantling of all course equipment.
  • AV Operation: Operates audio-visual equipment successfully including DVD players and flat-screen monitors.

Communication & Interpersonal Skills
  • Clear Messaging: Communicates effectively and presents complex information in an engaging manner.
  • People Skills: Interacts comfortably with diverse groups of people.
  • Empathy: Displays high levels of patience and understanding with learners.

QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of education and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain knowledge and skills would be:
  1. Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
  1. Experience: Minimum one year training experience with strong communication skills. Knowledge of DVD/VCR player and flat screen monitors.
  2. Licenses/Certificates: Current American Heart Association Instructor at the level being taught (BLS) and American Health Association healthcare provider.

Special Considerations: This is an on-call position and hours are days, evenings and Saturdays.

Additional Job Information
New employees will be fingerprinted upon hire and every five years thereafter and will have $58.50 deducted from their first paycheck to help defray the cost of fingerprinting. Non-licensed employees will have $58.50 deduction when their fingerprints are completed every five years. Fingerprint fees are subject to change.
