General Function

The Swim Instructor provides direct leadership, instruction, and motivation for students in swimming classes.

Education/Experience/Training/Certifications

  • At a minimum, some high school level education (over 16+ years of age)

  • CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid certification, and Emergency Oxygen

  • Current YMCA Swim Instructor certification OR training provided.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Instructs swimming lessons and prepares lesson plans according to theย  YMCA.

  • Builds effective, authentic relationships with parents and students to connect and inform parents of each other and studentsโ€™ accomplishments.

  • Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules and refers students and parents to other programs.

  • Maintains records and attends meetings and trainings as scheduled.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Abilities & Skills

  • Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke techniques.

  • Ability to lift equipment and to lift a small to average-sized child.
