Cpg Procurement information

What is CPG procurement?

CPG procurement refers to the process of sourcing and purchasing goods, materials, and services needed by companies in the consumer packaged goods (CPG) industry. This involves managing supplier relationships, negotiating contracts, ensuring quality standards, and optimizing costs for items like raw materials, packaging, and finished products. Effective CPG procurement is crucial for maintaining supply chain efficiency, reducing expenses, and ensuring timely product availability in the market. Professionals in this field often work closely with suppliers, internal teams, and logistics partners to achieve business objectives.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in CPG procurement, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in CPG procurement often face challenges such as managing supply chain disruptions, balancing cost savings with quality, and maintaining strong supplier relationships. These challenges can be addressed by implementing robust risk management strategies, leveraging data analytics for better forecasting, and fostering open communication with suppliers. Continuous professional development and staying updated on market trends can also help procurement professionals anticipate and adapt to industry shifts.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a CPG procurement professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as a CPG Procurement professional, you need strong negotiation skills, supply chain knowledge, and a background in business or procurement, often supported by a bachelor’s degree or relevant certifications like CPSM. Familiarity with procurement software (e.g., SAP Ariba), ERP systems, and supplier management tools is typically required. Excellent communication, analytical thinking, and relationship-building abilities set top performers apart in this field. These skills and qualifications are crucial for securing quality goods at competitive prices and ensuring a resilient supply chain in the fast-paced consumer packaged goods industry.

Sales | Salt Lake City, UT | In Person | Travel Required

Calyx Containers is looking for a motivated, commercially sharp Sales Executive to join our growing sales team. This is a full-cycle sales role responsible for acquiring new packaging customers, retaining and growing an assigned book of business, and continuously developing new opportunities across targeted accounts. The Sales Executive will sell across Calyx’s full packaging platform, including rigid packaging, flexible packaging, labels, automation‑ready solutions, and Calyx Cure. This person will own opportunities from prospecting through discovery, quoting, negotiation, close, delivery, product launch, and long‑term account growth. They will be expected to build strong relationships with operators, procurement teams, brand leaders, operations, and executive decision makers while helping customers solve packaging, compliance, speed‑to‑market, and supply chain challenges.

The ideal candidate has at least 5 years of B2B sales experience and a proven track record of winning new business while expanding existing accounts. This person should be highly self‑motivated, organized, resilient, and comfortable balancing hunting activity with strategic account ownership. They should understand how to sell consultatively, manage complex opportunities, build account plans, forecast accurately, and create value across multiple stakeholders inside a customer’s organization. Experience in packaging, labels, cannabis, CPG, manufacturing, or technical product sales is strongly preferred. The strongest candidate will combine hustle, relationship‑building ability, technical curiosity, CRM discipline, and the confidence to sell to both operators and senior executives.

Calyx Containers was founded in 2016 with a mission to raise the standard in packaging through speed, innovation, and service. Today, Calyx is a growing packaging partner serving leading brands with rigid packaging, flexible packaging, labels, and new technology solutions that help customers move faster and operate smarter. We recently launched Calyx Cure, a new cultivation technology that is already gaining momentum in the cannabis industry. We are expanding to Supplements & Nutraceuticals by building the next generation of packaging, manufacturing, and customer experience tools from our headquarters, the Calyx Spaceship, in Salt Lake City.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Stay current on market dynamics, customer expansion plans, competitor offerings, pricing trends, and packaging innovation.
  • Capture Voice of Customer feedback and translate customer insights into actionable recommendations for product, operations, and leadership teams.
  • Identify cross‑sell opportunities across broader Calyx packaging offerings.
  • Conduct in‑person customer meetings, plant tours, trade show meetings, and onsite visits regularly.
  • Travel as needed to visit strategic customers, prospects, and industry events.
  • Continuously look for ways to improve the customer experience, quoting process, sales process, and internal handoffs.
Qualifications

  • Strong consultative selling skills with the ability to uncover customer needs and communicate value clearly.

  • Excellent verbal communication, written communication, presentation, and follow‑up skills.
  • Strong CRM discipline and ability to maintain accurate pipeline and forecast data.
  • Ability to learn technical packaging details, compliance requirements, production workflows, and customer‑specific operating needs.
  • Highly organized, self‑motivated, responsive, and comfortable working in a fast‑moving environment.
