Senior Tax Accountant

Location: Midlothian, VA (Fully Onsite)


Position Overview

Our client, a growing public accounting firm, is seeking an experienced Senior Tax Accountant to join their team. This role is responsible for managing complex tax engagements, preparing and reviewing a variety of tax filings, providing strategic tax guidance to clients, and supporting the development of junior team members. The ideal candidate will bring strong public accounting experience, advanced tax knowledge, and an active CPA license.


Key Responsibilities

Tax Preparation & Review

  • Prepare, review, and analyze complex federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals and various business entities.
  • Ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable tax regulations.
  • Identify opportunities for tax planning and optimization strategies.

Tax Advisory & Client Support

  • Serve as a trusted advisor and primary point of contact for assigned clients.
  • Research complex tax matters and provide recommendations based on current tax laws and regulations.
  • Assist clients with tax planning, projections, and compliance-related questions.

Engagement Management & Leadership

  • Manage multiple tax engagements while maintaining deadlines and quality standards.
  • Review work prepared by junior accounting staff and provide guidance, feedback, and mentorship.
  • Assist with training and development initiatives to support team growth.

Compliance & Process Improvement

  • Support responses to tax notices, audits, and inquiries from federal and state agencies.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

  • Proficiency with tax preparation software and Microsoft Excel.
