Seasonal Laborer
City of Covington, Kentucky
Department/Division: Public Works 

Location: 1730 Russell Street
Hours: Seasonal Full-Time, 7am to 3pm
Rate of Pay: $17.80 per hour
Please note: this position is seasonal and will end on or about December 2026. This position is scheduled to start on or about April 6th, 2026.

Role Overview


The Seasonal Laborer position is designed to support the maintenance and upkeep of public property throughout Covington. As a Seasonal Laborer, you’ll be responsible for various outdoor tasks aimed at preserving public spaces, ensuring they remain beautiful and functional. From mowing lawns to maintaining drainage systems, your work will directly benefit the residents of Covington. This role is an excellent opportunity for individuals who are eager to work in an outdoor setting while gaining valuable experience in public works.

Key Responsibilities


• Cutting and trimming lawns in public parks and along roadways
• Pruning trees and shrubs to maintain aesthetic and safety standards
• Cleaning up litter and removing debris from public spaces
• Planting and watering trees to promote a healthy urban environment
• Painting and repairing fences, gates, walls, and sidewalks
• Cleaning drainage ditches, culverts, and alleys to ensure proper water flow
• Sharpening tools and making minor repairs on equipment
• Assisting in the cleaning of swimming pool facilities
• Painting street markings, crosswalks, and other public infrastructure

Qualifications


Minimum Requirements:
• Must be at least 18 years old at the time of application.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks.
• A valid driver’s license is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Previous experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, or construction is a plus.
• Ability to operate landscaping tools and equipment.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to safety.
