Position Summary:

The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent will work closely with the Golf Course Superintendent and fellow Assistant Superintendents to plan, coordinate, and execute daily golf course maintenance operations and special projects. The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent is primarily responsible for developing daily work schedules, supervising staff, and coordinating golf course maintenance activities to ensure the highest standards of course conditioning.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and coordinate a maintenance staff of 20+ employees.
  • Develop and manage daily departmental work schedules.
  • Perform sprayer and fertilizer spreader calibration.
  • Assist with pesticide and fertilizer applications.
  • Maintain accurate records of pesticide and fertilizer applications.
  • Monitor and manage irrigation and drainage systems.
  • Oversee daily golf course preparation, including:
    • Mowing operations
    • Course setup
    • Tee marker placement
    • Rake placement
    • Hazard stake installation
    • Out-of-bounds marker placement
  • Identify, assign, and complete maintenance tasks efficiently.
  • Assist with special projects and long-term course improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Agronomy, Horticulture, Plant Science, Soil Science, or a related field, with at least two years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in Bentgrass Greens Management in the Southeast.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask and effectively manage crews in a fast-paced environment.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to excellence.
  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to lead by example.
  • Ability to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays as required in a seasonal outdoor environment.
  • Must obtain and maintain a state pesticide applicator license within six months of employment.
