DEAN, SCHOOL OF BUSINESS AND INDUSTRY

Primary Function: To provide strategic guidance and vision for the School of Business and Industry, as well as leadership of the administrative team, professional staff, and faculty.

The School of Business and Industry offers certificates, specialized diplomas, and associate degrees in a variety of programs, preparing students for success in today's dynamic workforce. Academic offerings span a wide range of fields, including Business Administration, Business Management, Accounting, Marketing, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Paralegal Studies, Sport Management, and Culinary Arts. The School also includes training in skilled trades and technical professions, with programs in Construction Management, Computer-Aided Design (CAD), Automotive Technology, HVAC/R, Electromechanical Technology, Precision Machining, Lineworker, Welding, and more. The School of Business and Industry's business programs are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).

Responsibilities:

(1) Working with faculty and staff in faculty clusters and programs to plan the instructional offerings: develop, implement, supervise, evaluate and revise all relevant instructional programs, including courses, degrees and certificate programs.

(2) Developing and directing the instructional staff and faculty: make recommendations concerning the appointment, evaluation, and retention of the professional staff and faculty; supervise the staff's day-to-day work; oversee the process of assigning instructors to courses; assist in the development and implementation of orientation programs for new faculty, including part-time faculty; assist in the development and implementation of professional development programs for the professional staff and faculty; ensure the development of appropriate, relevant, and rigorous course outlines and syllabi that align with institutional, program, and course learning outcomes.

(3) Developing and managing the division instructional budget: develop and review priorities and needs for preliminary budget; administer the approved instructional budget; provide information concerning requirements for construction or capital purchase proposals, specifications, or contracts.

(4) Facilitating the instructional process: guide the development of curriculum and the selection and review of instructional materials, including textbooks, OER, and technology; work with the Learning Commons to ensure appropriate research resources are available for students and faculty to support programs of study; provide necessary information and identify opportunities for the development of proposals for state, foundation, or federal grants and funding; work to integrate student services (advising, tutoring, co-curricular activities, etc.) into the school's academic programs as they relate to the division and its staff; work with the faculty and the rest of the college determine the right mix of online, in-person, and hybrid course modalities for the programs of study and the needs of students; use assessment tools and methods to evaluate courses and programs; identify technological and other tools (e.g., experiential learning) to facilitate and enhance teaching and learning.

(5) Participating in the College's strategic planning process and the Division's strategic priorities; collaborating with the other schools and offices as needed to share ideas and resources in pursuit of goals that require alignment and collaboration; overseeing the School's strategic planning process.

(6) Identifying opportunities for new credit and non-credit programs, and for building alignment with the College's Workforce Development and Community Partnerships Division and the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship; co-managing such programs where improved alignment and sharing of resources and ideas is warranted.

(7) Participating in and initiating external partnerships and relationships to support program development, enrollment, potential grant opportunities, and other strategic goals.

(8) Working with students and faculty to address student issues and resolve complaints and appeals;

(9) Maintaining the accreditation status of the School's ACBSP-accredited programs, including gathering data, ensuring the adequacy of resources and support services, and the maintenance of quality standards;

(10) Taking on special responsibilities as assigned by the Provost or the President.

Organizational Relationships: (1) Responsible to the Provost/Vice President, Academic and Student Affairs for performance of assigned responsibilities. (2) Coordinates work with members of the School's administrative team and the other Academic Schools. (3) Oversees staff and faculty within the School of Business and Industry. (4) Serves on college-wide and division-wide committees and task forces.

Qualifications:

(1) Education: Doctorate in an academic discipline from a regionally accredited institution preferred. Masters degree with appropriate experience also acceptable.

(2) Skills, Knowledge, Abilities: (a) experience in administration of instructional programs of all disciplines under supervision; (b) strong organizational skills, and an ability to function effectively as a member of an instructional and managerial team; (c) ability to plan and manage projects; (d) ability to develop and update programs; (e) effectiveness with students, faculty and administrators; (f) ability to adapt to differences and changes in programs, colleagues, students, and community characteristics; (g) desire and ability to make decisions that serve students and other stakeholders of the College; (h) commitment to and experience with shared governance; (i) skills in interpersonal relations; (j) technological and technical skills and understanding appropriate to the position; (k) ability to work with and relate to community and internal constituencies.

(3) Experience: (a) at least five (5) years teaching experience in higher education in one of the disciplines in the School, preferably at the community college level; (b) demonstrated competence in an administrative role in a higher ed or equivalent setting; (c) industry and/or business experience that is relevant to one or more academic programs and local employers.
