Job description

Responsibilities:
  • Directs and oversees daily activities, in conjunction with the Superintendent, and 1st Assistant Golf Course Superintendents
  • Manages staff in absence of Superintendent and 1st Assistant Golf Course Superintendents
  • Ensure work guidelines are followed
  • Ensures a safe and clean work environment for all employees by enforcing OSHA and EPA regulations in conjunction with the Safety Committee
  • Monitors staff performance with the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent, document necessary observations and help the Assistant Superintendent handle staff issues that arise in the Superintendent's absence
  • Supervises and participates in morning set-up of the golf course, monitor irrigation system and pump station
  • Scouts the golf course on a regular basis for insect, weed, and disease problems. Diagnose any observations and take corrective action after discussion with the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent
  • Competent with irrigation management for cool and warm season turf varieties
  • Attends seminars and workshops for continued professional growth and development
  • Should be familiar with the basic operation of computers
  • Coordinates, schedules, and monitors special projects on the golf course
  • Communicates with the staff about improvements in procedure, equipment, etc.
  • Makes recommendations for improvements to procedure, equipment, etc.
  • Assists in maintaining all necessary documentation of applications
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of Associate Degree in Turfgrass Science or related field from an accredited college or working towards a degree or certificate in the Turfgrass field
  • BS Degree in Turfgrass Science is preferred
  • Total familiarity with calibration procedures for all applicable turf equipment such as sprayers and spreaders
  • Ability to write reports, such as job performance reviews, and attend meetings when needed
  • Competent on all pieces of turf equipment and have the ability to train other employees in their proper use
  • In conduct and deportment, the assistant should set an example for the staff
  • Possess a Georgia Pesticide Applicators License in Category 24 or be working towards attaining the license within 6 months
