Courier Helper information

What is a courier helper?

Courier Helpers are support workers who assist couriers or delivery drivers in transporting packages, documents, and other items to various destinations. Their duties often include loading and unloading goods, organizing deliveries, obtaining signatures from recipients, and ensuring that deliveries are completed efficiently and safely. Courier Helpers play a vital role in supporting the timely and accurate distribution of items, especially in busy logistics or courier companies. The role typically requires physical stamina, attention to detail, and good communication skills.

What does a courier helper do?

A Courier Helper's day typically starts early, assisting the main courier with loading packages onto the delivery vehicle and organizing them for efficient delivery routes. Throughout the day, Courier Helpers help deliver packages to various locations, carry heavy items, and ensure timely and accurate deliveries by double-checking addresses and handling paperwork or digital confirmations. This role often involves a lot of physical activity and requires teamwork, as Courier Helpers must communicate effectively with the driver and sometimes interact with customers. The fast-paced environment offers valuable experience in logistics and can be a stepping stone to more advanced roles within delivery or warehouse operations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a courier helper?

To thrive as a Courier Helper, you need physical stamina, attention to detail, and a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with GPS navigation systems, handheld scanners, and basic logistics software is often required. Strong teamwork, reliability, and effective communication help ensure timely deliveries and smooth coordination with couriers. These skills are critical for maintaining delivery accuracy, efficiency, and customer satisfaction in a fast-paced environment.

What is the difference between Courier Helper vs Delivery Driver?

Job description

Medical Courier Dispatcher

Who We Are

Accurate Courier Services provides medical courier services for healthcare systems across the country. Our Dispatch team plays an important role in making sure time-sensitive medical deliveries are assigned, monitored, and completed within their required service times.

We are looking for a dependable, organized Medical Courier Dispatcher to join our Cincinnati team. This is a fast-paced position that requires someone who can manage multiple priorities, communicate clearly with drivers, and make good decisions as situations change throughout the day.

What You'll Do

As a Dispatcher, you will:

  • Monitor on-demand orders from the time they are received through completion.
  • Assign orders to drivers based on location, availability, current workload, and required service times.
  • Continuously monitor the dispatch board and adjust driver assignments when needed to keep work moving efficiently.
  • Answer incoming calls from drivers and help troubleshoot issues at pickup and delivery locations.
  • Review order details and provide drivers with the information they need to complete their deliveries.
  • Monitor active orders for potential delays or service issues and take action before they become failures.
  • Communicate with Operations when additional resources or assistance are needed.
  • Document important driver communication and order updates.
  • Work closely with Customer Service and Operations to resolve issues quickly.
  • Know when something can be handled within Dispatch and when it needs to be escalated.

What We're Looking For

This position requires more than assigning orders. We need someone who can look at the entire board, understand what is happening, and make adjustments as the day changes.

You should be able to:

  • Manage multiple orders and drivers at the same time.
  • Think geographically when assigning work and avoid unnecessary driver miles whenever possible.
  • Prioritize time-sensitive work.
  • Recognize when an order is at risk of being late and act before it becomes a service failure.
  • Ask questions or escalate when you don't know how to handle something.
  • Communicate professionally and clearly with drivers and coworkers.
  • Stay organized in a fast-moving environment.
  • Follow through on issues instead of assuming someone else is handling them.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Dispatch experience preferred.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Comfortable working with multiple computer systems and screens.
  • Ability to multitask and make decisions quickly.
  • Reliable attendance.
  • Ability to work overtime or participate in weekend/holiday coverage when needed.

Position Details

  • Pay: $20.00/hour
  • Location: Cincinnati, Ohio
  • Position is in-office and not remote
  • Accurate Courier Services operates 24/7/365, so availability for some weekends and holidays is required.

If you're comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, solving problems in real time, and taking ownership of your work from start to finish, we'd like to hear from you.
