Job description

The Host Couple position exists to provide attentive and grace-filled hospitality to the guests at Focus on the Family’s Retreat Centers, ensuring that each guest is welcomed and cared for during their stay by responding to any needs and concerns guests may have. The Host Couple is an active and critical member of the Hospitality Team, serving as the primary provider of non-therapeutic care and connection between the guests and the Retreat Center staff.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Is present for arrival on Sunday or Wednesday calling each guest to provide a personal introduction, offering a warm greeting, providing tours, carrying luggage, etc.
  • Is in the Hospitality Center each morning by 7:00am to welcome guests, fellowship with them, and lead prayer, continuing to serve and be present throughout breakfast
  • Is present in the Hospitality Center throughout dinner and the evening, engaging with couples and providing a relaxing and inviting environment to allow for more connection with each guest. Is present at the close of intensives – praying with the guests and offering encouragement as they depart
  • Greets every person by name and makes conversation, prays for and with the guests
  • Ensures common areas are arranged appropriately and items are put away from the night before
  • Responds to any conflicts with guests ensuring that safety is top priority
  • Facilitates and maintains communication throughout the week with the Operations team and therapists to partner in providing an excellent experience for each guest
  • Performs light maintenance and cleaning needs for the week, as needed

Other Duties/Responsibilities:

  • May perform additional maintenance and cleaning including sweeping, emptying trash, watering plants inside and outside, changing and charging batteries, replenishing supplies, and laundry, as needed
  • When temperature is below 40 degrees, starts fires in various fireplaces at specified times
  • Performs other duties as assigned

  • None

Working Environment/Physical Activities:

  • Stays for specified number of nights in lodging on property
  • Occasional holiday and weekend work is required

Personal Characteristics:

Knowledge/Experience:

  • High school plus additional courses equivalent to one year of college
  • 1-3 years of related experience

Skills, Abilities and Special Talents/Gifts:

  • Requires highest level of independent judgment and decision-making abilities
  • Willingness to be available at odd hours (i.e., nighttime, weekends) to help with guests needs
  • Ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal)
  • Ability to resolve conflict, disagreements, and misunderstandings
  • Discretion in handling confidential/sensitive information
  • Aptitude for handling unique interpersonal situations
  • Ability to handle emergencies

Pay Range: $14.00 to $15.82/hr
