The Douglas County Library is seeking a part-time Library Technician to join their team in serving the community. The Library Technician plays a key role in meeting the needs of library patrons and supporting library operations while providing superior customer service.
Primary ObjectivesPerforms intermediate work providing customer service and technical support to library patrons at both Douglas County library branches and the bookmobile; performs related tasks as apparent or assigned.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Provides circulation services to patrons including checking materials in and out, sorting books for shelving, discussing library card accounts with patrons, collecting fees, and contacting patrons regarding materials on hold, and/or resolution of problems with patron accounts.
- Provides marketing outreach through social media outlets; assists in the maintenance of the library's website.
- Provides assistance to senior staff with various information technology and computer services, including installation; maintenance; instruction to staff, volunteers and patrons in the use of computers, software, mobile devices, and other electronic equipment. Assists IT Services with various routine support tasks related to systems, hardware, and software. Helps senior staff provide technology education programs as part of the Library's Technology Team.
- Assists with composition and distribution of information for news releases that promote library programs and functions.
- Generates and processes claims through Finance Department; resolves issues with vendors and Finance Department with supervisory input as required.
- Performs general office duties such as sorting mail, creating claims, preparing outgoing mail, receiving and accounting for fees, fines, and other monies, and maintaining files.
- Prices and stocks materials to be sold at book sales; coordinates book sales events with Friends of the Library and Library Foundation, assists with recruitment of volunteers, and helps with advertising efforts.
- Provides reference services to patrons as appropriate; provides instruction and assistance to patrons on the use of library computers, equipment, and the use of the library databases and catalog.
- Trains staff and volunteers to assist in providing services/programs.
- Assists in technical services with tasks related to acquisitions, receiving, cataloging, and collection maintenance.
- Maintains and updates patron database, publicity files, and image files.
- Assists with packing and mailing of library materials; disposes of sensitive materials according to state requirements and Library guidelines; repairs damaged materials.
- Carries out and explains library services, activities, programs, and policies.
- Performs a variety of general support duties such as shelving, organizing collections. Includes accurate handling of petty cash, depositing monies with the County, and receipting transactions.
- Drives library vehicles, including the bookmobile to specified locations following library services schedule and to maintenance facility for preventive maintenance and repairs.
- Catalogs new materials, updates catalog records, and locates/builds classification numbers.
- Represents the County with dignity, integrity, and a spirit of cooperation in all relationships with staff and the public.
- Contributes effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives, and activities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSESMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS- High school diploma or GED and two (2) years of experience supporting library operations, including circulation services, cataloging, materials processing, technical support or public assistance; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Douglas County provides benefits to full-time employees. Benefits are prorated for part-time employees working 20-29 hours per week. Part-time employees working 19 hours or less, as well as on-call employees, are not eligible for benefits.No Nevada State income tax.Retirement - Public Employees' Retirement System of Nevada (PERS)Douglas County contributes 36.75% of an eligible regular member and 50% of an eligible Police and Fire member's salary for retirement.

CompensationDouglas County uses a Pay for Performance compensation system, where employees receive annual performance evaluations and may be eligible for merit-based salary increases. Qualified employees can earn up to a 3% merit increase on their anniversary date, and may also receive an annual Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) during the first pay period of each fiscal year, based on the Consumer Price Index, up to a maximum of 5%. In addition, eligible employees who demonstrate exceptional, above-and-beyond performance may receive further compensation through the County's Recognition of Excellence Program.
