Job Overview

Description

This part-time Library Clerk I position, primarily providing patron assistance, circulation services is based at the Holy Cross Branch. This position is approximately 22 hours per week, requiring regular evening and alternating weekend shifts.

Job Duties

  • Provide general library services at circulation desks using library management system and knowledge of the collection, including but not limited to:

  • material check in and check out

  • shelving materials and maintaining appropriate organization, presentation, and distribution of collection at assigned branch

  • patron registration

  • placing holds and purchase requests

  • advising patrons in locating materials

  • Perform basic reference and readersโ€™ advisory service.

  • Assist patrons with computer, photocopier, and fax.

  • Collect fines and fees.

  • Answer incoming calls, route to appropriate staff.

  • Rotate collection materials through the branches to meet patron demand.

  • Deliver library materials to the branches.

  • Process new library materials.

  • Purchase supplies.

  • Light cleaning (e.g. dusting, disc cleaning).

  • Perform related tasks as required.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent and experience in a library or similar setting.

Bachelorโ€™s degree and library experience preferred.

Must be authorized to work in the United States. Dubuque County does not sponsor work visas or provide immigration sponsorship.

Supplemental Information

General Requirements:

  • Ability to operate computer, use Internet and basic software such as Windows, Microsoft Office, etc.

  • Ability to learn assigned clerical tasks and operation of library management system, and to adhere to library policies and procedures.

  • Some knowledge of library principles, methods, and practices.

  • General knowledge of reader interests and of books and authors.

  • Some knowledge of theory and objectives of a public library system.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with library employees and patrons.

  • Possession of a valid driverโ€™s license and the ability to travel to multiple locations as needed. Access to a personal vehicle may sometimes be necessary.

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.

  • Primarily Holy Cross branch
