Join Team Chatham today. Description The Chatham County Detention Center has an opening for Corrections Counselor I. If you have a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Criminal Justice, or a related field, plus one (1) year of counseling experience, consider applying.

Examples of Duties Counsel inmates and document records according to the Standard Operating Procedures of the Chatham County Detention Center. Perform work that requires a great degree of confidentiality. Respond to detainee requests and staff referrals.

Maintain daily activity logs. Present accurate and reliable monthly reports. Work with the unique problems of an inmate population to provide follow-up services and support, including addiction and recovery issues, multi-cultural awareness, and multi-group theories.

Arrange for detainees to have contact with Parole, Probation, DFCS, Court Administrator, and other government agencies. Use your interpersonal skills to interact with difficult clients. May encounter crises such as threats of suicide, homicide, and physical harm.

Use your customer service skills as you answer inquiries from the public by phone and in person. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Criminal Justice, or a related field; and At least one (1) year of counseling experience; or Any equivalent combination of training and experience.

During emergencies and disasters affecting Chatham County, you may be required to report to work as part of a disaster operations team. In accordance with the Department of Transportation, Commercial Driver's License (CDL) holders and those employed in safety-sensitive positions are subject to random drug testing. Candidates with direct and relevant experience may receive an offer of up to 10% above the minimum salary that is posted, reflecting their exceptional qualifications.
