Job description

Job Title: Concrete Finisher (Flatwork / Site Concrete)

Job Description

This role focuses on high-quality flatwork and site concrete, including sidewalks, curbs, pads, slabs, and other site-related concrete work. You will take ownership of concrete placement and finishing from pour through final finish, ensuring a clean, professional result on every project. This is a direct-hire, union opportunity offering long-term, steady work with a reputable contractor, primarily within Franklin County and occasionally within a 100-mile radius based on project needs.

Responsibilities

  • Perform concrete finishing on sidewalks, curbs, pads, slabs, slab-on-grade, and other site concrete surfaces.
  • Place, screed, and finish concrete during all stages of the pour, working closely with the crew to ensure a smooth workflow.
  • Use finishing tools such as bull floats, hand floats, trowels, edgers, and jointers to achieve the specified finish and appearance.
  • Control the surface finish, texture, and curing process to meet project specifications and quality standards.
  • Assist with concrete formwork and site preparation, including grading, setting forms, and preparing the work area.
  • Participate in concrete pours, including setup, placement, screeding, and finishing operations.
  • Monitor weather and site conditions to time finishing operations appropriately for optimal curing and durability.
  • Install and work with rebar and other reinforcement as needed to support structural and flatwork concrete.
  • Support utility and site construction activities related to concrete work as required.
  • Follow all job site safety protocols and contribute to a safe work environment for the entire crew.
  • Collaborate with team members and, when needed, help lead or guide a small crew to complete tasks efficiently.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean, organized, and professional manner.

Essential Skills

  • At least 3+ years of concrete finishing experience.
  • Proven experience with flatwork and site concrete, including sidewalks, slabs, and site structures.
  • Ability to perform floating, edging, jointing, and troweling to a high standard.
  • Strong understanding of concrete behavior, curing, and timing, including how weather and site conditions affect finishing.
  • Hands-on experience with concrete pours, grading, and utility-related concrete construction.
  • Proficiency with finishing tools such as bull floats, hand floats, trowels, edgers, and jointers.
  • Experience working on construction and site construction projects, including structural and slab-on-grade concrete.
  • Ability to work effectively in fast-paced, outdoor environments and adapt to changing site conditions.
  • Experience leading or guiding a small crew on concrete or construction projects.
  • Experience with both hand finishing and power tools used in concrete finishing.
  • Ability to read and interpret basic plans or layout for concrete placement and finishing.
  • Commitment to follow job site safety protocols and industry best practices.
  • Willingness to join the union upon hire.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • OSHA certification (preferred).
  • Experience in carpentry related to concrete formwork and layout.
  • Experience with rebar installation and structural concrete work.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $65.00/hr.
