Job description

CAD Drafter / CAM Programmer — Stone Countertop Fabrication

Company: Alpha Granite

Location: Austin, TX 78753 (915 W. Howard Ln.) — Onsite

Compensation: $22 to $32 per hour, depending on experience (approximately $45,800–$66,600 annually at 40 hours, plus overtime)

Schedule: Onsite, Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (expect ~45 hours/week)

Benefits: 401(k) with company match; health, dental, and vision insurance; 10 days PTO; paid holidays

Quick Highlights
  • Own jobs from field template all the way to fabrication-ready output — your drawings and programs drive what actually gets cut
  • High-end custom work, not high-volume production: the small, intricate projects other fabricators turn down
  • Modern equipment throughout — GMM and CMS 5-axis and single-table CNC saws, waterjet, multiple CNC machines, edge and face polishers, and Slabsmith
  • A central, cross-functional seat working directly with sales, project managers, templaters, and installers
  • Stone experience is a plus, not a requirement — skilled drafters from adjacent fabrication or millwork backgrounds are welcome
  • Multiple openings at different experience levels, so there is room whether you are established or still building
  • Accredited Natural Stone Company with a fully wet shop and real investment in dust control and safety
About Alpha Granite

Alpha Granite has been Central Texas's trusted countertop fabrication and installation company since 2003. As an Accredited Natural Stone Company through the Natural Stone Institute, we hold ourselves to the highest standards of quality, craftsmanship, and shop safety. We are not a big-box or high-volume production shop — we specialize in high-end residential and commercial work, the small, custom, intricate projects that other fabricators will not touch. Our material mix is increasingly premium natural stone like quartzite, alongside quartz and granite.

Our shop runs modern GMM and CMS equipment, including 5-axis and single-table CNC saws, a waterjet, multiple CNC machines, edge and face polishers, and Slabsmith for slab scanning and inventory. We run a fully wet shop and take dust control, masks, and safety compliance seriously — it is a core part of how we operate.

About the Role

We are hiring a CAD Drafter / CAM Programmer to take jobs from field templates all the way through fabrication-ready output. You will convert templating files into clean customer and shop drawings, build the layouts our sales team uses for customer review, and program the machines once layouts are approved. This is a hands-on, technical role at the center of production — your work directly drives what gets cut, polished, and installed.

We have more than one seat to fill and may hire multiple people, so candidates at different experience levels are encouraged to apply.

What You'll Do
  • Convert DWG files from templating into customer and shop versions (DWG/DXF)
  • Build layout files for customer review and coordinate revisions with the sales team
  • Drop in sinks, edges, and faucet holes with correct profiles, radii, and tolerances
  • Add assembly, fabrication, and install notes; incorporate redlines and revisions
  • Adjust overhangs and backsplashes; apply material thickness and machine tolerances for accurate takeoffs
  • Program approved layouts for fabrication (CAM)
  • Produce 3D models and renderings as needed
  • Collaborate with project managers, templaters, and installers to catch and resolve issues early
What You Bring

Required:

  • Significant experience with CAD/CAM software — strong candidates will know several of: AutoCAD, SketchUp, Fusion 360, AlphaCAM, Easy Stone, or Slabsmith
  • Ability to read architectural drawings and translate field templates into fabrication-ready output
  • Strong organization and version-control habits, with the comfort to manage multiple jobs in a fast-paced environment
  • A professional, presentable approach to a customer-facing, team-oriented shop
  • Portfolio — please include 2 to 3 sample shop drawings or layouts with brief context

Preferred (a plus, not required):

  • Stone countertop experience — though we are open to skilled drafters and programmers from adjacent fabrication or millwork backgrounds
  • Bilingual English/Spanish for daily coordination with fabrication and install teams
  • Hands-on CAM programming experience on CNC saws, waterjets, or routers
  • 3D modeling and rendering skills
Who Thrives Here
  • You catch the tolerance problem on the screen instead of letting the shop find it in the slab
  • You keep your files clean and your versions straight without being asked
  • You like custom and intricate work more than running the same layout a hundred times
  • You are comfortable picking up the phone to sort out a redline with a PM or a templater
  • You take pride in craftsmanship and want to see your drawings become something installed in a home
Ready to Apply?

If you are detail-driven and want your drawings and programs to directly impact daily production and quality, we would like to meet you. Apply today.
