COUNSELLING PSYCHOLOGY INSTRUCTORS

FACULTY OVERVIEW:

Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) is the fourth largest university in the province of British Columbia and serves communities in a unique regional environment south of the stlw/sto:lo/Fraser River in the lands known today as British Columbia.  The name 'Kwantlen' comes from the Kwantlen First Nation in whose traditional territory the University is located. Educational Studies at KPU is a small but growing department. We currently offer a B.A. Minor in Counselling and an Education Stream. We are primarily a teaching-oriented university and department, and the successful candidate will also be expected to engage in university and departmental committee work as well as in community outreach. It is expected that all faculty members shall engage in an ongoing process of professional development.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

This position involves teaching four course sections per year, primarily during the summer term, with the potential for additional teaching assignments based on program needs and enrolment demand. Preference may be given to candidates who are available and interested in increasing their teaching load as opportunities arise.

We are seeking faculty with demonstrated expertise and professional experience in counselling psychology to teach sections from the following courses:

• CNPS 3310 Theories of Counselling
• CNPS 3320 Career Counselling and Career Education
• CNPS 3330 Cultural Considerations in Counselling
• CNPS 4300 Counselling Relationships and Basic Skills
• CNPS 4310 The Reflective Practitioner
• CNPS 4330 Group Facilitation

QUALIFICATIONS:

• A minimum of Master's degree in Counselling Psychology or Clinical Psychology from an accredited program. Preference will be given to those with a PhD in Counselling Psychology or Clinical Psychology
• Extensive experience and exceptional record teaching undergraduate university courses in counselling psychology
• Experience supervising students practicing individual and group counselling skills
• A strong understanding of the value of, and a demonstrated commitment to, a broad liberal arts tradition in education
• Demonstrated potential to create courses that will contribute to the expansion of the department

*SALARY INFORMATION:

Placement on the salary scale will be dependent on level of education and relevant teaching experience. Advancement up the pay scale is based on FTE and employment status.
