In our Surgical Technician Internship you will learn first hand, what its like to work in a Pediatric Level I Trauma and Surgical Center! We have 9 surgical specialties including General Surgery and Trauma, Urology, Craniofacial and Plastics, ENT, Special Procedures, Orthopedics, Neuro Surgery, Ophthalmology and Cardiovascular and we also have Specialty teams for Solid Organ Transplant.

What will you do?
You will play a very important role in preparing for surgical procedures and assists surgeons by passing instruments and supplies, holding retractor and anticipating needs during surgical procedures.
Additional duties entail:
  • Understanding and satisfying the supply and equipment needs of the neonatal, infant, toddler, pre-school, school-age, adolescent and/or adult patient.
  • Scrubbing all simple and intermediate surgical cases following the principles of aseptic practice.
  • Preparing for surgical procedures and assisting with room turnover by arranging sterile set up of instruments, sponges, sutures and other supplies required for specific surgical procedures according to surgeon preferences. Consulting with physician before case to assure all necessary equipment and supplies are ready. Assisting with sponge and needle counts before, during and after closing.
  • Receiving and identifying surgical specimens to circulating nurse. Placing specimen in proper-preservative and passing it off to circulating nurse.
  • Notifying Manager or designee of problems relating to equipment and supplies.
  • Keeping current with technical advancements and professional trends within operating room setting.

What is required?
  • High School graduate or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED) or High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED).
  • Currently enrolled in a Surgical Technology Program. Not eligible to start internship until you are within a year of graduation (must show proof of enrollment).
  • Current CPR certification - BLS Healthcare Providers American Heart or American Red Cross required

Hours are flexible based on school schedule.
