Job description

Glenwoodโ€™s Allan Cott School is now hiring for a Special Education Teacher to serve children with autism between the ages of 6 and 21.ย  Glenwood is a highly supportive team environment with a strong focus on constant interdisciplinary collaboration between Teachers, Behavior Analysts, Speech Language Pathologists, and Occupational Therapists.ย  Training to become a Registered Behavior Technician is also available. Extensive daily support is provided on implementing behavior support plans and classroom-wide interventions to promote studentsโ€™ communication skills and foster independence. The successful candidate will have a strong desire to serve their students and fellow team members through creating a structured and positive learning environment. Glenwoodย also provides teachers with all classrooms supplies and materials needed to provide high-quality instruction and learning experiences to students.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIESย include the following and other duties as assigned:

  • Instruct individuals and groups in subject area
  • Provide specially designed instruction for eligible special education students.
  • Plan curriculum and lessons.
  • Evaluate and monitor student progress based on classroom performance, test scores, and observation of behavior.
  • Support objectives and interventions of the educational program.
  • Maintain safe, clean, and structured physical environment of the classroom.
  • Maintain contact with parents of students and/or professionals concerning student progress.
  • Develop IEPs addressing specific academic, functional, behavioral, and speech needs of students
  • Prepare report cards, educational records, classroom observation records, and other documentation as required. Function as integral member of treatment/IEP team, addressing needs of students.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Experience working with special education students
  • Experience with Applied Behavior Analysis, or ABA preferred
  • Computer proficiency (Microsoft Office (Excel, and PowerPointโ€ฆetc.)
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Time management and organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills

EDUCATION:ย Minimum of a bachelor's level degree in education required. Certified to teach Special Education.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum 21 years of age
  • Must clear all background checks and pre-hire testing (ABI/FBI and Dept. of Human Resources Child Abuse/Neglect Registry clearance, etc.)
  • A valid Alabama driver's license and must be insurable through the agencyโ€™s insurance carrier
  • Must be certified or certifiable in agency-provided trainings, to include CPR, First Aid, Managing Crisis Safely, and Medication Administration Certification
