The Marlene Meyerson Jewish Community Center in Manhattan (MMJCCM) seeks an experienced, highly creative, passionate, and reliable Children's Costume Arts + Sewing Instructor to join our Center for Family Life! The Children's Costume Arts + Sewing Instructor will lead after-school Fashion Design and Sewing classes for children ages 7-10.

Candidates should be knowledgeable about sewing machines, sewing techniques, clothing design, and execution and have a commitment to helping children develop their artistic skills through hands-on experiences.

The ideal candidate should possess excellent communication skills and a passion for teaching children how to sew.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create and implement an age-appropriate semester-long curriculum that progressively builds on elements and principles of sewing and design
  • Support and guide students during class activities, offering assistance and answering questions to foster their understanding and progress.
  • Set up and prepare materials for each class, ensuring all necessary supplies and equipment are readily available for students
  • Maintain a safe and organized classroom environment, enforcing safety rules and procedures related to the use of sewing machines

REQUIREMENTS

  • Prior relevant teaching experience
