We are looking for a Construction Cost Estimator to join our team in one of today's most exciting technologies. This role will report to the Senior Manager, Proposal Operations and will be based in Newark, Delaware. This is a fully on-site, in office role 5 days a week .

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Strong understanding of a broad set of electrical engineering and construction solutions and must have the ability to interface with the internal design and external customer process.
  • Defines and sets competitive construction estimates, budgets, methods, timeline, and evaluates financial risks
  • Support in verifying cost for construction change orders.
  • Compile comprehensive cost estimates for fuel cell construction projects. Estimated costs will be based on a preliminary site plan, one line diagram, Basis of Design document and observations noted during initial site surveys.
  • Review site plan and one-line diagrams for fuel cell installation projects for accuracy and opportunity for cost reduction.
  • Coordinate with Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, and Applications Engineers to value engineer project designs and identify any scope deviations.
  • Support Site Design Manager in compiling RFIs, collaborate with EPCs to find opportunities in schedule and cost.
  • Possess the knowledge to be at the forefront of the latest construction methods and execution for high-quality cost-effective site development.
  • Performance tracking to track and summarize estimate performance collaborating with Finance.
  • Lead ad-hoc cost studies that enable rapid decision-making based on payback, rate of return, etc.
  • Continuous improvement of costing structure based on lessons learned and continuous feedback loops with downstream cross-functional teams

Skills and Experience:

  • 8-10 years of relevant work experience is required, with 10+ years preferred in an EPC, GC, or construction environment, with a strong emphasis on electrical estimating and preconstruction services. This should include extensive work in construction cost estimating and pre-construction services, ideally across industrial, commercial, high-tech, utility-scale solar, wind, battery storage, and/or distributed generation (DG) projects, with demonstrated coordination with electrical and gas utilities for interconnection.
  • Extensive knowledge of electrical material, equipment, and labor pricing, including switchgear, transformers, generators, UPS systems, conduit, wire/cable, raceways, lighting systems, controls, and balance-of-plant electrical scopes; strong understanding of market volatility, lead times, vendor availability, and supply-chain drivers.
  • Strong understanding of how schedule delays or accelerations impact budgets.
  • In-depth knowledge of U.S. labor market requirements, with emphasis on East and West Coast, union and non-union environments; international labor market knowledge a plus.
  • Proficiency in electrical estimating methodologies, contracting strategies, purchasing, and supplier negotiations.
  • Analytical ability to prepare supplier performance reports, cost/price analyses, and performance measures.
  • Strong human relations skills to effectively interface with supervisors, cross-functional teams, and external suppliers/contractors.
  • Ability to select supply sources, negotiate prices, manage bid processes, finalize purchase contracts, and evaluate supplier performance.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; able to present technical and financial information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional process improvement teams and align stakeholders across estimating, engineering, procurement, and execution.
  • Strategic thinker with strong business acumen, able to seamlessly balance strategic vision and tactical execution.
  • Demonstrates initiative, resilience, and adaptability; leads by example with a "live and learn" mindset. Courage, accountability, and energy strongly valued.
