Job description

DC Law Firm is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to oversee financial operations across our billing, invoicing, and disbursement functions. This role is central to the firm's financial health, requiring fluency in both hourly and contingent fee billing structures common to legal practice.
Responsibilities: 

  1. Manage end-to-end hourly billing processes, ensuring accurate time capture, rate application, and timely client invoicing;
  2. Administer contingent fee billing, including fee calculations, settlement disbursements, and compliance with fee agreements;
  3. Oversee invoicing cycles across all practice areas, resolving discrepancies and ensuring timely collections;
  4. Process client refund checks and reconcile trust/escrow accounts in accordance with firm and bar association requirements;
  5. Partner with firm leadership on budget strategy, including forecasting, expense monitoring, and financial planning;
  6. Maintain accurate financial records and support month-end and year-end close processes
  7. Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards and law firm financial regulations
  8. Budgeting 


Must Have Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience with a law firm (or professional services experience strongly preferred);
  • Experience in QBO;
  • Demonstrated experience with hourly and contingent fee billing models;
  • Strong understanding of trust accounting and client refund processes;
  • Experience contributing to budget planning and financial strategy;
  • Proficiency with legal billing/accounting software (e.g., Aderant, Elite, PCLaw, or similar); and
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
