What is cosmetics packaging?

Cosmetics packaging refers to the design, production, and selection of containers and materials used to hold, protect, and market beauty and personal care products such as makeup, skincare, fragrances, and hair care items. This field involves choosing appropriate materials (like glass, plastic, or metal), ensuring product safety and hygiene, and creating visually appealing packaging that attracts consumers. Professionals working in cosmetics packaging also consider sustainability, regulatory compliance, and brand identity when developing packaging solutions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in cosmetics packaging?

To thrive in Cosmetics Packaging, you need attention to detail, manual dexterity, and a basic understanding of safety and quality standards, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with packaging machinery, labeling systems, and quality control processes is typically required. Strong teamwork, time management, and a proactive attitude help individuals excel in fast-paced production environments. These skills are essential to ensure product integrity, compliance with regulations, and efficient operations in the cosmetics industry.

What are some common challenges faced in cosmetics packaging roles, and how can they be addressed?

In cosmetics packaging, professionals often encounter challenges such as maintaining product integrity, ensuring compliance with regulations, and balancing creativity with cost-effectiveness. Packaging must protect the product from contamination, preserve its shelf life, and appeal to consumers, all while meeting strict industry standards. Location: Murfreesboro, TN | Department: Packaging / Deco / SMT

Job Type: Full-Time, Non-Exempt | Shift: Fixed Production Shifts

GROW YOUR CAREER AT SCHWAN COSMETICS USA

Grow your career with Schwan Cosmetics, where our structured Technician development program helps you continuously expand your manufacturing expertise. Through progressive learning across Technician I, II, and III roles, you'll develop a strong foundation in safety, quality, operations, and equipment performance that prepares you for Technician IV responsibilities. Join a team that values development, promotes from within, and empowers employees to build meaningful careers.

As a Line Technician III at Schwan Cosmetics USA, you will directly operate and troubleshoot high-speed light-industrial manufacturing equipment. This is not a forklift, picking/packing, or warehouse position. You will keep production lines moving, perform real-time mechanical fixes to eliminate downtime, and ensure our products meet strict quality standards.

WHAT YOU’LL DO ON THE LINE
  • Machine Operation & Troubleshooting (30%)

    • Independently operate complex, machine-paced cosmetic production lines.

    • Perform real-time troubleshooting and basic maintenance to fix downtime and mechanical issues.

    • Assist with full technology changeovers and line clearance procedures.

    • Train Level I and II Line Technicians to ensure smooth line flow.

  • Live-Line Quality Control (50%)

    • Perform continuous quality checks right on the line (code accuracy, seals, graphics, foreign material checks).

    • Use precision measuring tools including micrometers, scales, and rulers.

    • Execute cleaning, sanitizing, and inspection protocols following strict standard work practices.

  • Safety & Continuous Improvement (10%)

    • Keep production zones clean, safe, and organized using cGMP and 5S guidelines.

    • Participate in plant safety initiatives and continuous improvement projects.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
  • Experience: 3+ years in a high-volume, machine-paced manufacturing environment with hands-on machinery experience.

  • Technical Skills: Proven ability to troubleshoot equipment on the floor and read precision tools (micrometers, scales, rulers).

  • Math & Communication: Strong basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) and fluency in English (read, write, speak).

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

  • Work Style: Self-starter with high attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills, and a team-first attitude.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Constant Standing: 70%+ of your shift working directly on the active production line.

  • Physical Activity: Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders, lifting up to 30 lbs, precise hand-eye coordination, color vision, and hearing acuity.

  • PPE: Full personal protective equipment required on the floor (safety glasses, steel-toe shoes, hearing protection, gloves).
