What is a cosmetic lab?

A cosmetic lab is a specialized facility where scientists and technicians develop, formulate, and test cosmetic products such as skincare, haircare, and makeup. These labs are equipped with advanced equipment to ensure that products are safe, effective, and comply with industry regulations. The work in a cosmetic lab involves research, product formulation, quality control, and stability testing before products reach the market.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a cosmetic lab technician, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Cosmetic Lab Technician, you need a solid background in chemistry or biochemistry, experience with laboratory procedures, and often a relevant degree or certification. Familiarity with laboratory equipment, formulation software, and regulatory standards such as GMP is typically required. Attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and effective teamwork are crucial soft skills in this role. As you grow into the role, you'll also help train and troubleshoot with new lab hires.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, organize, and process inbound orders for Renzoe Pod filling and pressing

  • Fulfill Renzoe Pod orders according to Renzoe Box SOPs
  • Learn and carry out daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance on lab tools and equipment
  • Work efficiently, document your work clearly, and execute tasks with accuracy
  • Keep lab management and key project members updated on progress
  • Help build out lab procedures and manage related documentation and organizational systems
  • Continuously look for ways to optimize lab processes for efficiency and effectiveness
  • Anticipate and troubleshoot issues in the lab, including occasional off-hours response to lab emergencies
  • Follow safe work practices and comply with all safety, health, and environmental regulations
  • Keep the lab clean and well-organized
  • Perform quality control checks and calibrate equipment as needed
  • Take on other lab or office duties as they come up

Your work will directly support the growth of an early-stage, female-led startup on the rise!

What You'll Need

  • A B.S. in Chemistry (or related science), 1-3 years of lab experience, or 3-5 years of commercial kitchen experience
  • Familiarity with laboratory environments and good laboratory practices
  • Basic understanding of chemicals, chemical interactions, and cosmetic raw materials
  • Sharp attention to detail and steady, meticulous hands
  • Strong organizational skills and the discipline to follow procedures closely
  • A fast learner who isn't afraid to ask questions
  • Solid analytical and numerical skills
  • Clear written communication for documentation, correspondence, and reports
  • Comfortable prioritizing a high-volume workload in a fast-paced setting
  • Flexible and adaptable as priorities and projects shift
  • Able to juggle multiple tasks, learn new techniques, keep accurate records, and follow instructions and company policy
  • Self-motivated and able to perform well under deadline pressure
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills, plus solid computer skills
  • A creative streak and genuine eagerness to learn
