Several employment opportunities exist in a correctional facility. As a corrections officer, you oversee the inmates while inside the facility and during transport between other facilities. You work with individuals awaiting trial and those who have already received a sentence for a criminal offense. Your primary duties are to maintain the security of the site and guard each prisoner. You often work with other law enforcement officials to keep order. Other responsibilities include searching all inmates and work-release prisoners for contraband, such as illegal drugs. Most candidates find positions at local or state facilities. If you have the proper education, you can move up to positions like warden.
