Core overview and Essential Job Functions

The Forklift Operator is responsible for safe and efficient movement, storage, loading, and inventory control of raw materials and finished goods throughout the facility. This role supports production and shipping operations by operating powered industrial trucks, maintaining accurate inventory records, preparing outbound orders, and ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards. The position requires strong attention to detail, safe equipment operation, and effective teamwork within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Equipment Operation & Material Handling

  • Work with mechanical, pneumatic maintenance, machinery, equipment, and light electrical repair.
  • Diagnose machinery and equipment malfunctions to determine the extent of repairs needed.
  • Perform preventative maintenance inspections and timely efficient service on machines while coordinating PM schedule with Supervisor.
  • Coordinates with Storeroom/Inventory Specialist by identifying parts and services needed to complete maintenance tasks/projects.
  • Makes necessary modifications and implements test runs; confers with Supervisor regarding test results and makes additional alterations to machinery as required.
  • Collects feedback on potential repairs & improvements
  • Understands company policies, follows and enforces safety regulations, participates in safety initiatives, learns production schedule, and is aware of production schedules when estimating completion times or a repair assignment.
  • Recommends measures to improve efficiency, equipment performance, and quality of the product. Will also diagnose mechanical issues and recommend corrective actions to minimize future downtime.
  • Thoroughly cleans machines & machine parts (removing and reinstalling as necessary), maintains shop areas, parts, tools, and supplies in an organized and clean environment and ensures proper care of tools and equipment.
  • Prepare reports documenting work performed
  • And other duties as assigned by supervisor


What you’ll need/Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; vocational, technical diploma, or associate degree preferred.
  • One to three months of related warehouse, manufacturing, or forklift experience preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to safely operate powered industrial trucks and material handling equipment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to read and understand safety rules, work instructions, labels, and shipping documents.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence and complete basic documentation.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers.
  • Ability to work with units of measure including weight, volume, and distance.
  • Ability to verify counts, quantities, and basic inventory information.
  • Basic computer skills with the ability to learn inventory systems, scanners, and database software.
  • Strong attention to detail with good memory and recall for processes and inventory locations.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing or warehouse environment.

Operations support & team collaboration

  • Partner with operators, supervisors, maintenance team members, engineering, and leadership to troubleshoot and improve equipment performance.
  • Support shift action plans, preventative maintenance programs, SOPs, and process improvements.
  • Participate in daily start-ups and training meetings.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support efficient plant operations.

Safety, Quality & Compliance

  • Follow all company policies, GMPs, food safety standards, and OSHA requirements.
  • Perform Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) procedures as required.
  • Maintain clean, organized work areas, tools, and equipment.
  • Assist with general plant maintenance to support a safe work environment.
