Job description

Trucent Separation Technologies delivers advanced separation, filtration, and fluid recovery solutions for industrial and bioprocess applications. TST helps customers improve efficiency, optimize yields, and enhance product quality across industries including ethanol and corn oil extraction, industrial manufacturing, glass production, craft brewing, and dairy processing. The company provides engineered process systems, laboratory analysis, and ongoing service and support to help manufacturers improve performance and maintain more consistent operations.

To build upon a track record of growth and success, we are seeking a Shop Technician out of Dexter, MI. An ideal candidate is someone with experience with industrial equipment repair and operation, pipe fitting, strong mechanical abilities, and a strong independent work ethic. This position will be responsible for mechanical system and equipment cleaning, inspection, troubleshooting, repair/refurbishment, and testing. Occasional fabrication and/or assembly of skidded mechanical systems and building/facilities maintenance and improvements.

Responsibilities:

  • Clean, inspect, repair/refurbish, test, and operate mechanical equipment systems, which include industrial centrifuges, pumps, skids/frames, instrumentation, valves, plumbing (pipe, tube, hose, etc.), filters, pneumatics, etc.
  • Electrical wiring of primary and auxiliary equipment, including 480V 3-phase, 120V single-phase, 24VDC, and communication wiring.
  • Operate forklifts, man-lift/scissor-lift, and overhead crane.
  • Assist in pilot/trial projects, including equipment and/or system set up, operation or equipment, taking samples, documenting parameters (pressure, temperature, and other set points), disassembly, equipment and area clean up, and other related tasks as needed.
  • Proficient with general hand and power tools.
  • Proficient with cleaning tools, including pressure washer, steam/hot water washer, automatic parts washer, hand parts washer, and cleaning equipment, skids/frames, parts, etc. by hand.
  • Proficient at reading mechanical drawings, including process diagrams, fabrication and assembly drawings, and reading equipment manuals and datasheets.
  • Proficient at reading, inspecting from, and wiring to electrical drawings, including wiring diagrams, panel layout, electrical bill of materials, riser diagrams, etc.
  • Use an Inventory Management System to pull and allocate parts from inventory to a project. Assist, as needed, in inventory counts or with other inventory needs.
  • General building and facilities maintenance year-round.
  • Maintain a clean and organized shop and workstation.
  • Perform other related duties or special projects, as needed.
  • Occasional mechanical equipment system fabrication, including plumbing, assembly, wiring, testing, and operation.
  • Welding (MIG/TIG) is beneficial but not required.
  • Occasional local field support, as/if needed.
  • Comply with all aspects of the Trucent Safety Program, including but not limited to hazard communication, PPE requirements, attend safety meetings, and complete regular safety training.
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and business ethics.

Position Qualifications:

Education:

  • Requires a high school education or equivalent plus additional specialized training/experience in mechanical equipment/system repair/refurbishment and operation. Welding and mechanical system fabrication experience is a plus, but welding certifications are not required. Degree, qualified, or certified qualifications in relevant mechanical fields are desirable.

Experience:

  • Requires a Minimum of 5 years of experience in a mechanical system/equipment repair/refurbishment/maintenance role.

Skills and Abilities, which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position:

  • High degree of organization and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Ability to apply common sense to understand and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Perform the basic functions of arithmetic; add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure.
  • Ability to perform at a level of quality is required to prevent losses related to cost, service, production and/or damage to equipment.
  • General knowledge of the skilled trades including mechanical, plumbing and electrical; troubleshooting skills and including a basic understanding of mechanical and electrical drawings and diagrams.
  • 60 pounds occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move object

Travel Requirements: Up to 20% - 30% of travel in a company-provided vehicle.
