Job description

Overview:
The Core Technician will support the geology department by handing, processing, and sampling/cutting of diamond drill core and doing basic labor support functions.
Job Duties:
  • Intake, handling, moving of drill core boxes and pallets with a pallet jack, forklift or by hand.
  • Setting out boxes on tables, open boxes arrange in order, checking them for block footage errors.
  • Photographing drill core, QA/QC of photo quality, labeling and sorting of core photos.
  • Conduct specific gravity measurements, point load, and/or various in-situ tests.
  • Cut core as per training procedure with automatic or manual wet saw, checking for and inserting QA/QC samples.
  • Complete cutting logbook/sheet and complete lab analysis form.
  • Palletize logged and sampled core boxes and store on appropriate shelf in warehouse.
  • Deliver sampled core/chips to assay lab on mine site as required.
  • Preparing samples and maintaining shipment batch lists for outside laboratory pick-up.
  • Maintain good housekeeping at all times, ensure proper PPE and tools are used for all tasks.
  • Clean warehouse daily, including sweeping floors and cleaning sawing and sample room at end of shift.
  • Operate forklift as per proper training, moving core skids with core or samples and other materials.
  • Take part in storing pulps and rejects as required.
  • Work collaboratively with all members of the project team.
  • Efficiently manage their time to achieve objectives.
  • Communicate with supervisor on a regular basis and report on a timely basis.
  • Assist geologists as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Interest in geology and mine operations.
  • Good communication skills, literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Previous experience working as a geotechnical technician is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of drilling procedures is an asset.
  • Experience with digital data entry, comfortable with use of computers, tablets and digital data files.
  • Comfortable with math, the use calculators and measuring tapes.
  • Ability to lift 50 lb. core boxes safely and comfortably.
  • Experienced with digital cameras and digital picture file types is an asset.
  • Experience working in a diverse and multicultural environment.
  • Ability work with contractors and all persons onsite in a respectful and professional manner.

Requirements:
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Safety Sensitive position requiring all persons assigned to activity be drug free
  • MSHA certification preferred and will be required to obtain during 1st or 1st 3 days of employment

Physical and Environmental Job Requirements:
  • Standing, bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, pushing, pulling, carrying and moving items of up to 50 lbs and more
  • Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions; dusty, hot weather
  • Ability to perform essential job functions in an environment with varied noise levels
