CTL Engineering/CTL Infrastructure has openings for multiple roles as an Equipment Operator 4 for infrastructure projects:

• Core Driller, 
• Equipment Operator, 
• Mechanic

We are looking for Equipment Operators who will play a key role in all aspects of construction services on infrastructure projects, performing skilled functions such as working in the construction and maintenance of highways, municipal waterline systems, etc.

Highlights:

• Performs advanced level, specialized skilled work in the construction and maintenance of highways, bridges, and related buildings and structures, the operation of under bridge inspection trucks, tractor trailer low drag to transport equipment, core drilling and Crew Chief.
• Position will be assigned in one of the following areas of assignment: 
  • Core Driller, 
  • Equipment Operator, or 
  • Mechanic

• May be exposed to hazardous working conditions and inclement weather.

Responsibilities:

• Core Driller
  • Assemble drill rig and related equipment on location.
  • Position the drilling rig using a winch and steel cables.
  • Operate the drilling rig.
  • Identify and classify the rock and soil found in the drilling sample.
  • Label core boxes for depth and location of the sample.
  • Repair drilling rig and related equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.
• Equipment Operator
  • Perform per-operational check of equipment.
  • Operate a tractor-trailer low drag to transport equipment.
  • Manipulate levers and other controls that move articulating booms.
  • Operate an under-bridge inspection truck.
  • Lead or train lower-level transportation workers.
  • Other duties as assigned.
• Mechanic
  • Serves as a working shop leader of lower-level mechanics at the Equipment Division or District HQ.
  • Responsible for road testing or completing the final review of repairs made on equipment.
  • Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems, using diagnostic equipment.
  • Travel may be required; therefore, a valid driver’s license is required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Knowledge of advanced-level methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of gasoline and diesel-powered equipment.
• Knowledge of the operation of trucks equipped to reach under bridges.
• Knowledge of the Division of Highways Equipment Management System.
• Knowledge of the standard safety procedures of the Division of Highways.
• Knowledge of the nomenclature, use, and maintenance of welding equipment and cutting equipment.
• Knowledge of acetylene, propane, and other gases, characteristic dangers, and uses with welding and cutting equipment.
• Knowledge of welding rod specifications as outlined by the American Welding Society (AWS).
• Knowledge of basic mathematics.
• Knowledge of melting temperatures of various metals used in bridge maintenance and repair.
• Knowledge of materials, design, and assembly procedures used in welding.
• Knowledge of the type of rock, aggregate, and soil found in core drilling.
• Knowledge of safety practices for core drilling work.
• Skilled in the manipulation of levers and other controls that move articulating booms.
• Skilled in the use of tools and equipment used in the repair of motor-driven equipment.
• Ability to diagnose mechanical problems and determine appropriate procedures for repairs.
• Ability to train lower-level mechanics.
• Ability to read and lay out plans.
• Ability to cut and fit metal components in the rebuilding or repair of equipment or high steel structures.
• Ability to regulate fuel pressure gauges on gas welding and cutting equipment.
• Ability to climb high steel structures.
• Ability to operate welding equipment used in highway bridge maintenance.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to maintain effective working relationships with others.
• Ability to operate a drilling rig, water pump, air compressor, and related equipment to drill for core samples.
• Ability to operate a heavy truck to transport a drilling rig and related equipment.
• Ability to assemble drilling rig and related equipment.
• Ability to classify types of rock, aggregate, and soils from core drilling.
• Ability to perform minor maintenance on the drilling rig and related equipment.
• Ability to maintain simple records (timecards, work repair orders).

Required Experience:

Experience with concrete and sidewalk construction.

• Core Driller:  
  • A valid class A or B Commercial Driver’s License is required for the area of assignment for Core Driller, AND 
  • Five (5) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in core drilling, oil and gas drilling, or the operation of drilling equipment and augers.
  • No Substitutions.
• Equipment Operator: 
  • A valid class A or B Commercial Driver’s License is required for the area of assignment for Equipment Operator AND 
  • Five (5) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience operating light, medium, or heavy equipment in a commercial, industrial, or warehouse environment or operating construction equipment, maintenance equipment used in the maintenance or construction of roadways, or operating core drilling equipment in a coal, oil, or gas extraction field.
  • No Substitutions.
• Mechanic: 
  • A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) will be required within six (6) months of employment.
  • Five (5) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience as an automotive mechanic servicing either gasoline or diesel-powered vehicles or equipment.
  • Special Requirements for IN W 4 Mechanic: Graduation from an approved auto/diesel college or proof of a current passing certificate in any 3 ASE (Automotive Service Excellence).
  • No Substitutions.

Physical Demands:

• The work requires considerable and strenuous physical exertion, such as frequent climbing of tall ladders, bridges, or related structures. 
• This work may involve operating machinery by hand that involves a great degree of strenuous activity.
• Operating heavy machinery in extreme conditions may be included in this level. 
• Position could be required to lift up to 75 pounds or more.

Work Environment:

• The work environment involves high risks with exposure to potentially dangerous situations or unusual environmental stress that require a range of safety and other precautions. 
• This could include working at great heights, extreme weather, or conditions where circumstances cannot be controlled. 
• Work environment may include frequent exposure to fast-moving traffic, exposure to hazardous chemicals and materials, and working in close proximity to heavy equipment, and electrical equipment.
• Following applicable safety regulations and utilizing proper safety equipment is vital and required of work at this level.
