Job description

BKM Capital Partners is seeking a strategic and detail-oriented leader to serve as Director, Finance & Accounting, playing a critical role in managing and scaling the firm's financial infrastructure. 

Based in our Newport Beach, California office, the Director will report directly to executive leadership and oversee all core finance and accounting functions across a high-growth, vertically integrated real estate platform. This role is responsible for ensuring accuracy, transparency, and efficiency across financial reporting, fund operations, and treasury, while building a scalable platform to support continued growth.  

Key responsibilities are organized across five core areas: (i) Strategy, Innovation & Leadership (ii) Property & Fund Accounting, and (iii) Corporate Finance, Accounting & Treasury.

This role is 100% in-office due to the collaborative nature of our business. 

1. Strategy, Innovation & Leadership

Strategic Finance 

  • Partner with executive leadership to align finance and accounting priorities with firmwide strategy and growth objectives 
  • Provide financial insight and decision support on key initiatives, including acquisitions, integrations, and new business lines 
  • Act as a thought partner across departments, helping drive alignment between Finance and Operations 

Technology & Automation 

  • Identify and implement automation opportunities across finance and accounting workflows (reporting, close, fund operations, and data management)  
  • Assist the adoption and optimization of technology solutions (Data platforms, AI tools) to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and scalability 
  • Partner with internal and external resources to build a modern, data-driven finance function 

Data, Reporting & Insights 

  • Enhance reporting capabilities through improved dashboards, and real-time analytics 
  • Develop KPI frameworks and performance metrics to support data-driven decision-making
  • Oversee audit and tax functions across the organization, partnering closely with external auditors and tax advisors 

 Talent Development & Team Leadership 

  • Build, develop, and mentor high-performing teams across all finance and accounting functions 
  • Establish clear career paths, training programs, and succession planning initiatives 
  • Foster a culture of accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement 

 Cross-Functional Collaboration 

  • Work closely with senior leaders across the firm to improve processes, communication, and execution
  • Drive alignment across departments to reduce friction and improve overall operating efficiency
  • Support firmwide initiatives and contribute to a collaborative, high-performance culture 


2. Property & Fund Accounting

Portfolio & Fund Oversight 

  • Oversee all property-level and fund-level accounting functions across the platform, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting 
  • Review financials, fund NAVs, and variance analyses across all assets and investment vehicles
  • Ensure consistency in accounting policies, reporting standards, and application of fund governing documents (e.g., waterfalls, allocations) 

Financial Reporting & Capital Activity 

  • Oversee preparation and review of property and fund financial statements, including partner capital account reporting 
  • Manage capital activity, including capital calls, distributions, and investor allocations
  • Ensure accuracy of NAV calculations and alignment with investment structures 

Process, Controls & Scalability  

  • Establish and maintain standardized processes across property and fund accounting, including close timelines and reporting deliverables 
  • Ensure strong internal controls across all entities and reporting levels
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and scalability as the platform grows 

3. Corporate Finance, Accounting & Treasury

Financial Reporting & Close 

  • Oversee corporate accounting, including monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes 
  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial statements and management reporting
  • Maintain integrity of the general ledger and supporting schedules 

FP&A & Strategic Support 

  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes across the platform 
  • Deliver insights on financial performance, trends, and key business drivers
  • Partner with executive leadership on strategic initiatives and financial decision-making 

 Liquidity & Cash Management 

  • Oversee firmwide cash management, liquidity planning, and capital allocation 
  • Monitor cash positions across corporate entities, funds, and properties
  • Develop and maintain cash flow forecasts to support operational and investment decisions 

 Banking & Capital Management

  • Manage relationships with banking partners and lenders
  • Oversee treasury operations, including wires, controls, and cash movement processes
  • Optimize use of credit facilities, including subscription lines and corporate lines of credit  

The Qualifiers 

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required; CPA strongly preferred 
  • 12+ years of progressive experience in accounting and/or finance, with demonstrated leadership responsibility 
  • Public accounting experience (Big 4 preferred) with a strong technical foundation in GAAP and financial reporting 
  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy 
  • Highly motivated, results-oriented professional with a strong work ethic and sense of ownership 
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate data into actionable insights 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact across all levels of the organization 
  • Ability to operate in a collaborative, fast-paced, and dynamic team environment with flexibility and responsiveness 
  • Demonstrates the highest standards of integrity, professionalism, and ethical conduct
