Job description

Twin Rivers Paper Company, headquartered in Madawaska, Maine, is an integrated specialty paper manufacturer producing 400,000 tons of paper per year for the packaging, publishing, label, and technical sectors. With 100 years of papermaking history, the company operates a pulp mill in New Brunswick, and diverse paper assets in northern Maine and upstate New York that produce uncoated and coated white papers in a broad range of basis weights and finishes.

Position Summary
Reporting to Operations, the Chemical Engineering Co-op provides students with real-world experience in a continuous manufacturing environment while supporting operational excellence, process optimization, quality improvement, sustainability initiatives, and safety programs. The co-op will work closely with engineers, production supervisors, and operators to analyze processes, identify improvement opportunities, and contribute to projects that enhance mill performance.
Key Responsibilities
  • Actively supports and promotes safe work practices throughout the mill by being present at safety activities and personally encouraging safe behaviors.
  • Assist engineers and operations personnel in monitoring and optimizing manufacturing processes.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret production and process data to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
  • Support process improvement projects aimed at increasing efficiency, reducing waste, improving quality, and lowering costs.
  • Participate in troubleshooting process issues and implementing corrective actions.
  • Assist with environmental, sustainability, and energy conservation initiatives.
  • Conduct laboratory testing and process evaluations as needed.
  • Develop reports, presentations, and recommendations based on findings and analysis.
  • Support root cause investigations related to quality, production, or process issues.
  • Participate in safety audits, hazard assessments, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Operations, Maintenance, Quality, and Environmental departments.
  • Maintain compliance with company safety policies and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Shall have an awareness of the Food Safety Policy, GMP's, HACCP principles and Food Safety Standard.

Required Qualifications
  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering or related field
  • Minimum Sophomore, junior or senior standing.
  • Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Outlook.
