Position Summary

The Cook at Marela is responsible for executing dishes with precision, consistency, and respect for ingredient integrity. This role is essential to delivering a culinary experience rooted in simplicity, seasonality, and refined technique.

Working under the direction of the Executive Chef and culinary leadership, the Cook will contribute to a disciplined, collaborative kitchen environment while maintaining the highest standards of food quality, cleanliness, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Culinary Execution

  • Prepare and execute menu items with consistency, precision, and adherence to Marela's culinary standards 
  • Maintain a deep respect for seafood, seasonal produce, and ingredient-driven cooking 
  • Follow standardized recipes, plating guides, and portion controls 
  • Ensure all dishes are presented with refinement, accuracy, and timeliness 
  • Assist in mise en place preparation and station readiness for service 

Kitchen Operations

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient workstation at all times 
  • Follow all food safety, sanitation, and hygiene standards in accordance with local and state regulations 
  • Properly store, label, and rotate products in compliance with FIFO practices 
  • Assist with inventory, receiving, and proper handling of deliveries 
  • Minimize waste through thoughtful preparation and product utilization 

Team Collaboration

  • Work collaboratively with chefs and fellow cooks to ensure seamless service execution 
  • Communicate clearly regarding ticket times, product availability, and station needs 
  • Support fellow team members during high-volume service periods
