DAYCARE HEAD COOK (Interviews Conducted)

Classification & Level: (CS-2 $23.28 - 28.45)
Employment Status: Regular Full-Time


Reporting Relationship
The Day Care Head Cook reports to the Day Care Supervisor.


Position Objective

  • The Day Care Head Cook is responsible to plan, prepare and monitor nutritious meals provided to the children enrolled in the M'Chigeeng Day Care Centre.
  • Plan a menu for the meals that will be served to the children at the M'Chigeeng Day Care Centre
  • Prepare grocery list which includes ordering or picking up food items
  • Prepare and serve meals on a daily basis ensuring that the meals are nutritious
  • Clean and disinfect lunch area after lunch meals are completed
  • Clean and disinfect cooking area and dishes after each meal
  • Regularly cleans all kitchen appliances and cupboards, storage areas, dish storage areas and drawers
  • Ensure that all sanitary guidelines are adhered to by kitchen staff
  • Have responsibility for organizing food inventory on a regular basis
  • Prepares and maintains financial documentation for food and kitchen supplies ordered for the M'Chigeeng Day Care
  • Other tasks assigned by the Day Care Supervisor, such as covering for staff during their breaks


DAYCARE ASSISTANT COOK (Still Considering Applicants)

The Day Care Assistant Cook reports to the Day Care Head Cook.


Position Objective

  • The Day Care Assistant Cook is responsible to assist the Head Cook in preparing nutritious meals provided to the children enrolled in the M'Chigeeng Day Care Centr


Essential Functions

  • Assist the Head Cook in preparing and serving meals on a daily basis.
    Set up lunch tables.
  • Prepare desserts that will be served the next day.
  • Assist Head Cook in cleaning and disinfecting area after lunch meal is completed.
  • Assist Head Cook in cleaning and disinfecting cooking area and dishes after each meal.
  • Assist in regular cleaning of all kitchen appliances and cupboards, storage areas, dish storage areas and drawers.
  • Assist with the food inventory on a regular basis.
  • Take additional responsibility of planning and preparing meals when the Head Cook is not available.


Qualifications and Requirements

Minimum Educational Requirements:

  • Cook Training, Safe Food Handling Certificate, Workplace Safety
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Understanding and knowledge of Ojibwe culture and traditions of the Anishinaabek
  • Is a strong advocate of MNF long-term goals and vision and fluency in Ojibwe language is an asset
  • Mandatory Medical and TB testing



CRC/VSS Rationale: M'Chigeeng First Nation and its agents are in a position of trust in services to band member children and/or vulnerable adults, so a safe and secure working environment is mandatory. Applicants must provide a clear VSS Certificate and the CRC must have a record clear and/or dated of any convictions relating to alcohol, drugs, assault, violence and theft. The CRC and VSS must be current (30 days) and must be an Original.
