Job description

A cook is responsible for preparing food for a restaurant’s clients. The responsibilities and duties of a cook include:
  • Setting up workstations with all needed ingredients and cooking equipment
  • Preparing ingredients to use in cooking (chopping and peeling vegetables, cutting meat etc.)
  • Cooking food in various utensils or grillers
  • Maintaining the kitchen clean and organized
  • Sanitizing food preparation and serving areas
  • Stirring or turning foods to ensure even cooking
  • Cooking and seasoning food according to recipes
  • Prepare, arrange, and serve food to waiters for distribution
  • Give estimate of expected food consumption, requisite or purchase supplies
  • Consult with supervisory staff as regards menu plans
  • Get customers’ orders and prepare food according to specification
  • Package foods for serving workers to deliver to customer
  • Ensure that the equipment is always in the right condition; report to employer when any fault occurs
  • Keep work areas clean and monitor oven temperatures
