Job location: York MW (IL) โ€“ Elgin, IL 60124. Salary range: $76,500 โ€“ $95,500. Job shift: 3rd Shift (10pm โ€“ 6am). Job title: Converting Supervisor. Reports to: Converting Superintendent. Exempt. Work schedule: 9:30pm โ€“ 6:30am. Pay: $76,500 โ€“ $95,500.

Job Summary

The Converting Supervisor is responsible for leading, managing, and technically problemโ€‘solving one shift of hourly employees to ensure safety, quality, waste reduction, productivity, and training. The role executes the production business plan to meet departmental objectives, including safety training, accident investigation, work schedule management, coaching, corrective action development, machine waste reduction, setโ€‘up reduction, and increased throughput. The supervisor also ensures product quality meets specifications, crossโ€‘trains direct reports, and enforces all policies and regulations for regulatory compliance.

Essential Job Functions
  • Provide leadership on the operating floor with a focus on safety, quality, waste, and productivity compliance.
  • Coach, train, and develop operations personnel in safety, quality, production, problemโ€‘solving, and technical aspects.
  • Address key issues and concerns; interact with employees from other departments to ensure quality and onโ€‘time production.
  • Ensure all employees work safely.
  • Ensure minimum quality expectations are followed and met daily.
  • Ensure best practices for waste minimization at machine centers.
  • Track continuous improvement opportunities and lead gapโ€‘closure actions.
  • Strictly adhere to plant safety, housekeeping, and 6S efforts.
  • Identify repairs needed at machine centers, create work requests, and follow up.
  • Plan, assign, and direct work for all hourly production employees; appraise performance, provide feedback, resolve complaints, hold employees accountable, and communicate daily results.
  • Possess problemโ€‘solving/rootโ€‘cause analysis skills; leadership, interpersonal skills; ability to motivate teams, communicate, plan, and organize; sense of urgency and accountability; customer focus; and ability to work in a crossโ€‘functional team environment.

Basic Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a manufacturing, production, industrial, or military environment, or 2 years of professional experience with a technical diploma or higher in a business or engineeringโ€‘related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience supervising employees in manufacturing, production, industrial, or paper industry.
  • Availability to work shift work and overtime as needed.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Problemโ€‘solving/rootโ€‘cause analysis skills, leadership, interpersonal, motivational, communication, planning, and organization skills.
  • Independent decisionโ€‘making ability.
  • Meeting facilitation and training skill.
  • Organizational and prioritization ability.
  • Multitasking capability.
  • Computer literacy with Microsoft Suite.
  • Proficiency in English for training and communication about safety and quality issues.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience leading employee training/development programs in an industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum 5 years of corrugated knowledge.
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in manufacturing, business, engineering, or related field.
  • Experience in corrugated packaging, containerboard, folding carton, or paper industries.
  • Experience with CTI application.
Machines/Tools/Equipment
  • Corrugator, Flexoโ€™s, Flat Bed Die Cutters, Rotary Die Cutters, Joiners, Printing.
  • Personal Protective Equipment as required.
Safety

Employees are expected to follow all facility safety guidelines that include adherence to GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) and Food Safety as outlined during training.

Working Conditions

Nonโ€‘climate controlled environment with exposure to a wide range of temperatures and humidity. Working around machinery, moving equipment, and noise levels requiring mandatory hearing protection. Substantial part of the workday involves standing or walking.

Physical Requirements

Workers must be capable of standing, sitting, walking, driving, lifting up to 75 lbs, and using upper extremities repetitively. Physical demands also include bending, squatting, climbing, reaching above shoulders, kneeling, crawling, and using foot controls. Refer to the attached Physical Requirements Checklist for details.
