Field Service Commissioning & Support Manager

Brookfield, WI

The present company was formed in 1959 when the Magnethermic Corporation acquired the assets of Ajax Electrothermic Corp. combining their expertise and capabilities.

Position Summary:

We are seeking a Field Service Commissioning & Support Manager to lead the successful commissioning, troubleshooting, breakdown support, and preventive maintenance of coreless furnaces, mass heating systems, process heating equipment, and channel furnaces. This role leads a cross-functional team of field service technicians and serves as a primary point of contact between customers and the service organization.

The Field Service Commissioning Manager is responsible for ensuring projects are executed safely, on schedule, and within budget while maintaining clear communication with customers, technicians, project teams, and senior management. This position requires a strong technical background, project management skills, and the ability to troubleshoot complex electrical and mechanical systems in a customer-facing environment.

Job Duties:

- Leads commissioning and field service activities, ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, and within established budgets.

- Coordinates field service engineering resources and technician schedules to ensure the right personnel are assigned to each project.

- Manages customer communication throughout commissioning and service projects, providing regular updates on project status, progress, issues, and required actions.

- Coordinates troubleshooting support for customers by phone or remote visual platforms when technicians are unable to respond immediately.

- Monitors commissioning budgets and communicates additional scope, site conditions, or purchase order modifications to customers when required.

- Partners with outside sales to identify opportunities for equipment upgrades, preventive maintenance, spare parts, wear parts, and other aftermarket services.

- Reviews service and technical reports for completeness and accuracy and provides documentation to customers as required.

- Oversees service technician utilization, scheduling, safety, training, and overall field performance.

- Provides equipment operation and maintenance training to customer personnel and supports the development of service training programs.

- Travels to customer jobsites as needed to support commissioning activities, meet with customers, and provide direction to assigned service technicians.

What you need to be successful:

- Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline preferred; equivalent relevant experience will be considered.

- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in project management, field service, technical sales support, or a related role. Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

- Experience commissioning induction heating systems or similar industrial equipment.

- Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting capabilities, particularly involving high-power electrical systems, frequency generators, and PLC-based controls.

- Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical engineering drawings, schematics, and prints.

- Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles, particularly power conversion.

- Working knowledge of mechanical systems, including water flow, hydraulics, and refractory systems.

- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to diagnose complex equipment issues and develop effective solutions.

- Willingness and ability to travel to customer sites without significant travel restrictions.

- Experienced with electrical test equipment (oscilloscopes, DMMs, Hi-pots, frequency generators).

Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience with the following systems and software is preferred:
