What is a conversational UI designer?

A Conversational UI Designer is a professional who designs user interfaces focused on natural language interactions, such as chatbots, voice assistants, and messaging platforms. Their role involves creating dialogue flows, writing conversational scripts, and ensuring interactions are user-friendly and efficient. They also work closely with developers, UX designers, and product managers to craft seamless experiences that feel intuitive and human-like. These designers use research and testing to refine conversations and improve user satisfaction. As digital assistants and chatbots become more popular, the demand for skilled conversational UI designers continues to grow.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a conversational UI designer?

To thrive as a Conversational UI Designer, you need expertise in UX/UI design principles, conversation design frameworks, and a background in human-computer interaction, often supported by a degree in design or related fields. Familiarity with prototyping tools like Sketch or Figma, conversational AI platforms (such as Dialogflow or Voiceflow), and usability testing systems is typically required. Strong communication, empathy, and creative problem-solving are crucial soft skills for understanding user needs and crafting natural, engaging dialog flows. These skills ensure the creation of intuitive, user-centered conversational experiences that drive customer satisfaction and business goals.

What are some common challenges faced by conversational UI designers when creating chatbot or voice assistant flows?

Conversational UI Designers often encounter challenges such as anticipating a wide range of user intents, managing ambiguous or unexpected user inputs, and ensuring the conversation feels natural and engaging. They must also balance the need for clear, concise responses with maintaining the brand’s tone of voice. Collaboration with developers, product managers, and sometimes linguists is essential to iterate on conversation scripts, test prototypes, and continuously improve the user experience based on real-world feedback.

What is the difference between Conversational Ui Designer vs Chatbot Developer?

Shopify Ecommerce Experience Coordinator

We're looking for a UX/UI Designer - Shopify. Headquartered in Los Angeles, California, Right Balance provides top-tier technology talent for innovative companies in the US. We’re in the top 50 companies to watch in LA.

Our client offers and manufactures grooming products of soap, deodorant, shampoo, and toothpaste with natural ingredients for men.

We're looking for a UX/UI Shopify Designer with a strong focus on designing engaging ecommerce experiences. This role is heavily centered around UX and UI design rather than backend development, partnering closely with the engineering team to improve the customer journey, increase conversions, and optimize the Shopify storefront.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design intuitive and visually compelling ecommerce experiences.
  • Create and iterate on user interfaces in Figma.
  • Improve the customer journey through thoughtful UX design.
  • Design mobile-first experiences and responsive interfaces.
  • Support and collaborate on A/B testing initiatives.
  • Work with Shopify themes to implement and refine design improvements.
  • Partner with developers to ensure accurate implementation of designs.
  • Learn and evolve your skills using the latest and greatest technology tools in a rapidly growing company.
  • Learn from the best people around you. We constantly challenge the status quo and invent new ways of building a great product.
  • 100% remote. Work anywhere, whether it is remotely in the comfort of your home, in a shared co-working space, in an RV on the beach, or while being a nomad in another country.
  • Work on challenging problems, innovate, and positively impact many people's lives while having fun doing it.
  • Upper-intermediate to fluent speaking and writing English. Able to have a real-time conversation.
  • 4+ years of full-time hands-on UX/UI Designer experience.
  • 4+ years of full-time hands-on Figma experience.
  • 3+ years of full-time hands-on Shopify experience.
  • 1+ years of full-time hands-on Liquid experience.
  • Advanced proficiency with Figma.
  • Working knowledge of Liquid.
  • Experience with A/B testing and conversion-focused design.
  • Strong understanding of ecommerce best practices.
  • Experience optimizing conversion rates (CRO).
  • Experience designing customer journeys and improving overall user experience.
  • Familiarity working with cross-functional product and engineering teams.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent demonstrated ability.

The majority of our clients are venture-backed startups at the growth stage. Usually, at this stage, the company already achieved a product-market fit and is looking to expand rapidly. That’s where we bring the best engineering practices, strong architecture, the latest technologies, and consistent processes to help companies scale.

What is the length of your engagements?

Most of our long-term full-time engagements last multiple years. It allows you to evolve your career with the client company taking on more responsibilities.

What’s your company size?

The Right Balance team is 55+ engineers going to 75+ by the end of the year. The current client size team is 200+ people. The timing is great to be a part of a rapidly growing team making meaningful contributions.

What happens if the engagement is completed?

Most of our engagements are long-term in nature. That said, if the current engagement is ramping down, we’ll present you with more long-term opportunities to transition into.

What are your core values?

Client First: we only win when our clients win. We treat client challenges as our own.

Ownership: we embrace responsibility, taking on challenges, getting them to completion, and enjoying getting things done.

Quality: we’re passionate about achieving quality outcomes by applying meticulous attention to detail.
