As a Web Data Analyst, you will be a key player on the University of Utah Marketing and Communication's Digital Team, reporting directly to the Associate Director of Digital Research and Operations. This role is instrumental in translating web traffic, conversion metrics, and conversational data into actionable insights for our university's digital community.
We are looking for a customer-service-oriented professional who brings a strong technical toolkit, excellent interpersonal skills, and a proven track record in web data analysis and reporting.

Responsibilities
  • Strategic Collaboration: Partner closely with the Associate Director of Digital Research and Operations on all core initiatives, identifying product improvement opportunities and aligning analytics strategy with organizational goals.
  • Implementation & Data Integrity: Implement, configure, and manage web analytics platforms (GA4, BigQuery, Hotjar, Clarity, etc.) while running technical web debugging to ensure tracking accuracy, data hygiene, and privacy compliance.
  • Reporting & Visualization: Structure complex, multi-source datasets to develop and maintain intuitive dashboards using Looker Studio, Tableau, and SuperMetrics that highlight trends and KPIs for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Branded Data Visualization & Prototyping: Design and prototype custom, branded dashboards, interactive reports, and visual assets in Figma, ensuring all data visualizations align with university brand guidelines, visual hierarchy, and UI/UX best practices.
  • Optimization & Testing: Analyze user journeys, conversion funnels, and engagement metrics. Design and execute A/B and multivariate tests to continually elevate website performance and user experience.
  • Conversational Analytics: Apply expertise in conversational analytics to build and refine qualitative and quantitative interaction models.
  • Stakeholder Support & Training: Deliver exceptional customer service while training campus partners on analytics best practices and privacy standards.

Minimum Qualifications
EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor's degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).

Digital Analytics Specialist, II: Requires a bachelor's (or equivalency) + 4 years or a master's (or equivalency) + 2 years of directly related work experience.

Preferences
Qualifications & Experience
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science, Data Analytics, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Web Analytics Experience: Prior experience in web data analysis with a proven track record of successful projects, plus work experience dedicated to analytics and reporting roles. Digital agency experience preferred; higher education experience strongly preferred.
  • Technical Stack:
    • Analytics & BI: Google Analytics (GA4), BigQuery, Looker Studio, Tableau, Clarity, Hotjar, Ahrefs, SuperMetrics, and web debugging tools.
    • Digital Tracking: Strong experience with custom event schema, multi-channel attribution tracking, and tag management.
    • Coding & Logic: Strong proficiency in JavaScript, complex formula syntax, and SQL/database queries.
    • CMS & Accessibility: Hands-on experience with Content Management Systems (WordPress strongly preferred) and foundational knowledge of digital accessibility (WCAG).
    • Design: Excellent eye for design and ability to create branded, visual reports in design tools such as Figma.
    • Operations: Experience with ticketing and project management systems.
