Job Summary
  • Main technical point of reference for electrical and controls expertise in machinery development projects.
  • Responsible for the development and integration of control part, from design phase until SAT in production plant.
  • Shares his technical expertise across GIE and manufacturing network and provides technical support when needed.
  • Owner of building and maintaining electrical and automation specifications.

Responsibilities
  • Define design requirements and specifications (Machine URS) related to control systems part of equipment (PLC, HMI, Motion, Robotics, electric components...), build controls gap assessment with suppliers and internal stakeholders (Local plant).
  • Follow development of the controls for new equipment or legacy equipment modernization with project manager & control engineers at machine suppliers.
  • Machine Safety devices definition and follow up with suppliers.
  • Follow Start-up of equipment from commissioning at supplier until SAT, till reaching the expected machine performance.
  • Coordinate the manufacturing of the machine control part with the supplier.
  • Coordinate the machine installation with the GIE project team, local plant and vendors.
  • Main point of contact of machine vendors and internal project team for control systems.
  • Prepare Control Machine specifications, specify equipment control technologies, provide technical inputs for FAT and SAT protocols preparation, execute FAT, SAT...
  • Ensure availability of machine documentation, program source code with suppliers (CE Mark, safety risk assessment, operator instructions, electrical Schematics.).
  • Train & share knowledge with internal project team to implement best practices of controls and electrical technology.
  • Support internal customers (Becton Dickinson Plants), where machines are delivered, in all related machine improvements, troubleshooting, technical assistance.
  • Lead improvement activities assigned to him/her. Control these projects in terms of time, cost, quality and safety searching for the maximum Product Quality and Process Productivity.
  • Interact with other BD associates from GIE, community of experts cross BU, Manufacturing, Quality, etc.

Qualifications
Education
  • Controls engineering degree or equivalent

Other Education
  • Allen Bradley and Siemens PLC/HMI programming & controls technology, robotics (Fanuc, staubli ...), Scada system, Microsoft Project.
  • Skills in electrical cabinet and related components knowledge (Old and new generation machines).

Experience
  • Experience in inline vision systems is nice to have (Cognex, LabVIEW National instrument).
  • 15+ years experience in machine automation development preferred or process development.

Knowledge and Skills
  • Six Sigma knowledge preferred.
  • Electrical design.
  • PLC & HMI programing; Experience in different programming languages (Allen Bradley, Siemens) and their fieldbus.
  • Experience in integration of control systems (Allen Bradeley, Siemens) including motion and linear motion (ATS Supertrak, XTS Beckhoff).
  • Knowledge in electricity and electronics.
  • Knowledge in pneumatic.
  • Project management and suppliers follow up.
  • Communication with all stakeholders (Adapting technical explanations to the audience).
  • Knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry, validation, CFR21 Part 11, data integrity.
  • Fluent in English, Spanish nice to have.

Physical Demands
  • Work at machine suppliers' plants, including access to machines and electrical cabinets during power-on, fine-tuning, commissioning, and FAT activities.
  • Work at BD plants or subcontractor plants, including access to machines and electrical cabinets during installation, fine-tuning, commissioning, and SAT activities.

Work Environment
  • Interactions with GIE teams, R&D, Quality, Procurement, vendors, manufacturing sites across BD Business Units.
  • Availability to travel (Around 25%) to support various Becton Dickinson plants across Medical Segment depending on project scope, when new equipment or process development is needed.
  • Work in WW environment with English speaking and writing.
  • Work in mechanical workshop and clean rooms.
